Brittney Griner’s Atlanta Dream Receives Fortunate News on Monday

Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream have officially secured a spot in the 2025 WNBA playoffs, sitting at 25-14. With five regular-season games left, the Dream will now be playing for seeding, with the Las Vegas Aces (26-14) and Phoenix Mercury (25-14) also jockeying for position.

On Monday, Griner and Atlanta traveled to Uncasville, CT, to take on Marina Mabrey and the Connecticut Sun, a team they will play three times over the next 10 days. And the Dream will be returning a key piece.

Guard Jordin Canada has been out for the last eight games for Atlanta due to a right hamstring injury she suffered on August 10 against the Mercury, Griner's former team.

On Sunday, Canada was ruled questionable for the first time since her injury. She had been initially ruled doubtful for Friday's win over the Dallas Wings, but was still unable to play. Against the Sun, Canada will be able to make her return, giving Atlanta an extra spark.

While Canada has received the start in each of the 23 games she has played this season, the Dream will elect to bring her off the bench on Monday, keeping Te-Hina Paopao with the starters. Griner will remain on the bench as well.

Canada, in her second season with Atlanta, is having one of the better years of her career. The eighth-year guard is averaging 12.0 points on 40.2% shooting, 3.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. It certainly doesn't hurt to have Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, both All-Stars, starting in the backcourt as well.

Following the Sun game, the Dream will be back in action on Wednesday to begin a two-game homestand against the Los Angeles Sparks.
