The Indiana Fever entered a crucial showdown with the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday night, with both teams fighting for playoff positioning as the regular season winds down.

Still without Caitlin Clark, who remains sidelined while rehabbing a groin injury, and dealing with a string of other injuries, the Fever fell 75–63. The win lifted the Valkyries to 21–18, while Indiana dropped to 21–19.

Despite the loss, Clark enjoyed a heartwarming postgame reunion with her Iowa roots, spending time with former teammates. Kate Martin suited up for the Valkyries, while fellow Hawkeyes Gabbie Marshall and Jada Gyamfi were also in attendance.

The four were the driving forces behind Iowa’s rise during Caitlin Clark’s tenure, from her arrival in 2020 to the conclusion of her record-breaking collegiate career in 2024, which ultimately led to her being selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever. She became the all-time leading scorer in Division I college basketball with 3,951 in 139 career games.

Gabbie Marshall chose not to pursue a professional career after her Iowa days, while Kate Martin’s path took an unexpected turn. She attended the 2024 WNBA draft simply to support Clark, but ended up hearing her own name called at No. 18 overall to the Las Vegas Aces.

Martin contributed as a rookie with the Las Vegas Aces last season and has since joined the Valkyries for their inaugural campaign as an expansion franchise.

Meanwhile, Jada Gyamfi, who joined the Hawkeyes in 2022, is set to return for her senior season this year. She is expected to step in as one of the program’s centerpieces as Iowa looks to return to the level that brought them multiple Final Four appearances during Clark’s four years.
