After dominating in college with the Iowa Hawkeyes, All-Star guard Caitlin Clark is consistently making history by breaking records in the WNBA as a rookie. Turns out, the Indiana Fever star has just made another record but it’s not one she’s going to want.
Just recently, Indiana defeated the Minnesota Lynx by a score of 81-74 . Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 21 points, while Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark each contributed 17 points. Boston also recorded a career-high 16 rebounds and four blocks.
The game was tightly contested throughout, with the Fever and Lynx trading the lead multiple times. The Lynx were missing star player Napheesa Collier, who has been out with a foot injury. Alanna Smith had a solid game for the Lynx, scoring 18 points with eight rebounds and four steals, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the balanced effort from the Fever.
In the closing minutes, the Fever made key plays to secure the victory. Clark set up Boston for a crucial layup, and then hit two free throws to extend the lead to 77-74. Mitchell then came up with a clutch block and two free throws to make it a five-point game in the final seconds. Clark added two more free throws to cap the scoring.
The win was the Fever’s eighth in their last 12 games, as they continue to climb the standings in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Lynx dropped to 16-8 on the season, despite the efforts of Bridget Carleton, who tied her career high with five three-pointers.
After the game, Clark has once again made history by breaking another record. In a post shared by Myron Medcalf, the Indiana star has made history in a way she wouldn’t want.
“Per ESPN Stats & Info, Caitlin Clark just recorded her 139th turnover, the most turnovers in a season in WNBA history. And she has also passed Sue Bird for the most assists in a season by a rookie since 2000,” Medcalf tweeted.
Clark has averaged 16.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game this season. The Fever star has also made several records in her first year in the league, including becoming the first rookie to notch a triple double in WNBA history.
Even though Clark has accomplished this kind of record, the impact she has made on the game holds more weight. Expect the Indiana All-Star point guard to ramp up her performance on the court to help the Fever to reach the playoffs before the regular ends soon.
