The Golden State Valkyries have made several roster moves in recent days, continuing the trend of ever-changing lineups across the WNBA. Depth, availability and international obligations have all played a role in these changes.
One of the latest moves was waiving veteran guard Julie Vanloo, shortly after she helped Belgium win the EuroBasket finals. Her departure opened up roster spots for Janelle Salaun and Cecilia Zandalasini, who both returned from EuroBasket duty. Chloe Bibby and Bree Hall were also let go, as they filled in when regular players went off to international competitions.
Golden State guard Kate Martin, now in her second WNBA season, spoke to the media on Wednesday about the roster changes. The Iowa alum didn't hold back when discussing the emotional side of the business.
"We know basketball is a business and I trust our front office, and I trust our coaching staff."

Martin went on to express how tough it’s been watching teammates come and go, especially during the EuroBasket stretch.
“Everyone who’s gone for EuroBasket we miss dearly. The girls that got cut or waived, we’re going to miss dearly.”
Martin was selected by the Las Vegas Aces in the second round of the 2024 WNBA Draft. After one season in Vegas, she was taken by Golden State in the expansion draft.
Through 15 games this season, Martin is averaging 7.3 points in 17.6 minutes per game. She's found a scoring rhythm recently, putting up double figures in her last three outings, including a season-high 21 points on June 25 against New York. Her steady development has made her a reliable contributor for the Valkyries during a year filled with adjustments and growing pains.
