Lynx Coach Gets Honest About Bueckers' Gutsy Performance

The Minnesota Lynx got a dominant win over the Dallas Wings on Monday night with a 96-71 result. Despite the massive difference between the two teams, the Wings' star rookie Paige Bueckers continued to receive plaudits. She has been one of the league's best players as a rookie.

Bueckers has always been a well-known name in women's basketball, as she was identified as a star player while studying in Minnesota. She has lived up to that hype and is drawing praise from some of the sport's most respected people, including Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve.

In the lopsided win in the Lynx's favor, last year's finalists showed why they are one of the favorites to win the WNBA championship this season. Despite that lopsided result, the Lynx still struggled to stop Bueckers, who had 17 points for the Wings.

Unfortunately, the Wings' supporting cast is not that good, so Bueckers did not have much help. However, she has continued to be a standout, which could be good for the team's long-term future. Reeve was impressed with how much Paige has improved since the last matchup between the Wings and Lynx.

Reeve Wants To Commend Bueckers' Development

As a rookie, people expect Bueckers to have some shaky performances. In the first two games between the Lynx and Wings, Bueckers only scored a total of 20 points, scoring 10 in both games.

That was not the case on Monday, as Bueckers scored 17 points. It was an impressive performance, especially when compared to her teammates. She has shown massive signs of improvement, which is a great sign for Bueckers' future.

As one of the league's best head coaches, Reeve was ecstatic about how well Bueckers has developed over the past few months. She has already been a top player with her status as a #1 overall pick. However, she has continued to learn during her development in WNBA games.

"Point guard, I mean, she plays mostly off-ball, and they sort of figured that out with Paige. There are times when she initiates, but they really use her more off-ball," Reeve said in her post-game presser.

"She’s very much improved from the first time we saw her in terms of how she gets her scoring attempts. She learned how much the team needs her to take shots. It’s almost like Phee."

Bueckers Will Compete For An MVP Award In The Future

Bueckers is chasing the Rookie of the Year award for the 2025 WNBA season. She is the favorite to win it, but she is in a heated race with the Washington Mystics' duo of Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen.

All three players have been superb, but most people will likely go for Bueckers. She has been the Wings franchise's best player, as she has leapfrogged Arike Ogunbowale for that role.

It will not be surprising when Bueckers continues to develop and becomes an MVP candidate. She is competing against the best players, but Paige is talented enough to earn MVP votes in the future. She is not yet on the same level as MVP favorite Napheesa Collier and three-time MVP A'ja Wilson, but Bueckers is likely to reach that level soon.
