The New York Liberty are playing hard to stay in contention for a second straight WNBA championship. The Liberty have not been as good as the front-running Minnesota Lynx, but their 14-6 record has them in the hunt.
New York is in the No. 3 spot in the newest WNBA Power Rankings. The Liberty got past the Las Vegas Aces last week, but Sunday's showdown with the Atlanta Dream proved to be a test. New York was down by 19 points against the Dream before putting together a fantastic rally to get the win.
Much like other WNBA teams, the Liberty are looking forward to having some time off during the upcoming All-Star break. Before the break, though, the Liberty have to do battle against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Wednesday, July 16.
"The defending champions secured a couple victories to fire them up, defeating the Aces 87-78 on Tuesday, then rallying from a 19-point deficit to beat the Dream 79-72 on Sunday," Michael Voepel of ESPN wrote.

"The defense that fueled the comeback against the Dream was a welcome sight for the Liberty, as was forward Leonie Fiebich's combined 36 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists between the two wins."
In the Sunday win over the Dream, Fiebich scored 21 points. Breanna Stewart added 18 points and 10 rebounds, according to The Associated Press . New York also had added help to its lineup as Natasha Cloud and Isabelle Harrison returned after missing a game due to injuries (Cloud with her hip; Harrison with her knee).
Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu had an off night throughout the game's first half, missing 10 of her 11 shots in that timespan.
With New York looking to get its 15th win of the season before the break, Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello has more options off the bench. If New York can get the win over a tough Fever squad, then the Liberty probably will feel better about making a second-half push.
There's no doubt that New York wants to move past the Lynx into that coveted No. 1 spot atop the WNBA standings.
