The Las Vegas Aces (8-9) traveled to Indiana to take on the Fever on their second game of a five game roadtrip.
The Indiana Fever (9-8) were without Caitlin Clark due to a left groin injury.
In the first quarter, the Aces came away with some good looks but could not make the connection at the rim. With 7:17 left in the quarter the Aces were down 6-0. The Aces struggled to find some rhythm on the offensive end with a suffocating Fever defense.
To close out the first quarter, the Aces were down 21-14.
In the second quarter, the Aces’ struggle continued on both ends of the court. With less than 2:00 left in the half, the Aces were down by as much as 20 points, 44-24.
With 1:02 left in the half, Aces’ coach Becky Hammon challenged a possession call, the Aces received possession but couldn’t come up with anything to close out the half.
In the first half, the Aces were held to 26% from the floor. The Aces ended the half down 46-24.
To start the second half, the Aces began to slowly chip away at a 22-point lead. The Aces consistently made it to the free-throw line. At the 2:05 mark in the third quarter, the Fever led the Aces 61-42. Aaliyah Nye hit a three-pointer to close out the third quarter, 68-47.
In the fourth quarter, the Aces were just 3-of-12 from the three-point line. With 5:35 left in the game, the Aces were down 74-51.
A’ja Wilson closed out the game with 29 points, three rebounds, and one assist. The rest of the team scored 25 points in totality.
The Aces fall 81-54 to the fever.
In the post-game presser, A’ja Wilson said, “We haven’t been ourselves in a minute. Our defense has to be ten times better.”
Aces coach Becky Hammon said, “There’s not a whole lot to say. Its one of worse offensive nights I’ve ever seen.”
The Aces are now 8-9. They continue their road trip to Connecticut to take on the Sun on Sunday, July 6 at 1pm PT/4pm ET.
