Kurt Angle makes shocking revelation over his final years with WWE

Kurt Angle spent the final year of his WWE career in a producer role. A WWE Hall of Famer, Angle transitioned following Wresltmania 35 in 2019. He stayed in his new role until April 2020.

However, during a recent episode of the "Kurt Angle Show" podcast, Angle revealed that he wasn't passionate about his backstage role.

"Actually, I wasn't that into my job," Angle said. "I was a producer. I was killing time. I knew that if they were going to do cuts, I would be the first one let go because they were paying me a lot of money, more money than other producers. I didn't put much into it, I really didn't. I should have been a lot more passionate about it...I'd rather wrestle, but that wasn't going to happen."

Since retiring from wrestling, Angle has launched a successful podcast. The former Olympian often provides his opinion on the current state of wrestling. Angle also discusses the rivalry between WWE and AEW. During his wrestling days, Angle spent a decade with TNA, another rival company. He joined the upstart brand in 2006 and stayed until 2016.

Angle then returned to the WWE to see out the final years of his in-ring career.

Interestingly, Angle's comments regarding a producer role come hot on the heels of Nick Aldis being named as the GM for Smackdown.

Aldis, 36, is also a TNA alumn. However, he has accepted a backstage position with the WWE. Aldis is expected to wrestle on special occasions, as he did earlier this year for TNA at their "Slammiversary" show. Angle likely sees some similarities between himself and Aldis in regard to their backroom roles. The only difference is Aldis is still in his wrestling prime. Angle's career was already coming to an end.

Nevertheless, Angle's status as an all-time great is unquestionable. That's what makes his admission over his producer role such a shock. Angle has always given everything to the WWE. Perhaps his final year with the company was the push he needed to finally hang up his boots and transition into retirement.
