Ric Flair has given his two cents on Chris Jericho’sstatus. As noted, there have been rumors that Jericho will be coming back to WWE once his AEW contract expires, which is supposed to happen at the end of the year. Even AEW CEO Tony Khan has addressed Jericho’s future.
Flair, who is currently signed with AEW, told The Escapist Magazine that he hopes Jericho gets a final run, but doesn’t think the run would be as elaborate as John Cena’s current retirement tour. He said:
"Of course, I do hope he gets one final run, because Chris Jericho has meant a lot to the business. But I don't think he'll get it. I'm sure he'll go to the Hall of Fame. I mean, he's been a Hall of Fame athlete, human being, wrestler, everything. But I would doubt very seriously if he'd get the kind of deal that John Cena got. It might be a bit of a stretch to see him back in WWE, but you never know."
The last time Jericho was in a WWE ring was in April 2018 as an entrant in the Greatest Royal Rumble match. The last time he was in an AEW ring was this past April, when at the AEW Dynasty PPV, he lost the ROH World Title to Bandido.
Jericho has been playing into people's speculation, too, by sharing posts related to his WWE career. He shared a 2013 Royal Rumble clip of himself and even liked some tweets that had fans scratching their heads. Flair wasn't the only WWE legend to comment on a potential return, either. As noted, Booker T "could definitely" see him back in WWE.
So if we do get the Fozzy singer back in WWE, what would he do? Maybe become tag team partners again with Kevin Owens, bring back the infamous list, or create a stable like he has done in the past in AEW. Maybe a WWE version of the Jericho Appreciation Society or Inner Circle?
If Jericho returns to next year’s Royal Rumble and goes to WrestleMania and faces Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship — that could be interesting. Jericho, who was AEW’s first world champion, faced Rhodes at AEW’s inaugural Full Gear pay-per-view in November 2019. The match ended with Jericho retaining the AEW World Championship, and Rhodes never being able to go for the title again. Of course, Jericho and Rhodes have also had plenty of matches in WWE, though neither was for a World Title. The only time there was a title picture was the WWE Tag Team Titles.
There are plenty of possibilities for the future WWE Hall of Famer. Jericho has been in plenty of promotions in his career, not just WWE or AEW, but ECW, WCW, NJPW, and Jim Cornette’s Smoky Mountain Wrestling — just to name a few. He’s good at reinventing his career, just like Ric Flair.
