Since video game movies are in vogue right now, Hollywood is having another crack at adapting Street Fighter for the big screen. WWE's Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns will have starring roles in the movie, and its latest trailer has given us our best look at them so far.
The new Street Fighter trailer is the longest yet by far. Almost three minutes as we inch closer to its October release date. It gives us a look at pretty much all of the actors who will be playing iconic characters in the film, including a very quick shot of Jason Momoa as Blanka in all of his green glory right at the end.
As for Rhodes and Reigns, the former will be playing Guile while The Tribal Chief is Akuma. The former is the more iconic Street Fighter character of the two, instantly recognizable thanks to his bright blonde flat top hairdo. He also gets a lot more screentime in the new trailer than Reigns, and we even hear The American Nightmare's Guile speak for the first time.
A close-up of Rhodes as Guile is shown early on in the trailer, and he reappears later, leaning into lead character Ryu to say "boom". That's not the line I'm referencing, though. Rhodes has the honor of introducing our first look at Street Fighter's iconic Hadouken, saying, "I'm positive that a fireball came out of Ryu" right before Andrew Koji screams Hadouken and shoots said fireball.
We actually see Reigns summon some fire of his own a little earlier in the trailer. It seems to be the only time he's featured, which isn't a good sign for how much screentime he might get in the movie as a whole. It is for a big moment, though, and it gets a reaction from 50 Cent, who plays Balrog.
Seriously, the cast in this thing is wild.
Reigns is shown squatting, summoning his own fireball, sending it into Ryu's abdomen, which results in The Tribal Chief's on-screen opponent flying backwards out of the arena in which they're throwing down. 50 Cent then looks over to say, "That was some abracadabra sh*t".
Predicting how much screentime an actor will get in a movie based on its trailers isn't an exact science, of course, but as it stands, it looks like Rhodes will be the one we see a lot more of in Street Fighter this October. Perfect promo fodder for the WWE Champion if so. If he and Reigns ever cross paths in WWE again, Rhodes can point to the film and brag about how much more of a starring role he has. Potentially a bitter pill to swallow for Reigns, as he has been making a concerted effort to break into Hollywood for longer than Rhodes.
