WWE Hall of Famer Torrie Wilson has never had any qualms taking part in bold storylines. However, there have been instances where even this self-styled “team player” had to put her foot down.
Talking to Ariel Helwani on his show, she opened up about feeling uneasy during her first day working as a part of the Invasion angle when Vince McMahon acquired WCW.
“It was obviously extremely intimidating, working with Vince during your first day, and kissing Vince. Kissing Vince was interesting because Linda was standing right there, kind of helping navigate it all. So I don’t know if that made me feel better or more weird. But, you know, I was just really happy to have a big role on TV then,” she said.
Notably, like many of the WWE divas of the early 2000s, she was written into a considerable number of glamorous storylines. In 2001, she made her debut on World Wrestling Federation (WWF) television as part of The Invasion, where she had to kiss McMahon, an experience that she describes as nerve-racking.
While she considers herself a “team player”, there were instances where she had to say no. McMahon wanted her to have hand-painted on her breasts, similar to what was previously done by Sable. However, she was uncomfortable doing that, choosing to cover herself with rhinestones instead.
And now, looking back, she is often left unsettled while looking at many of her old performances.
“I’ve only seen myself in a thong bikini a few times out in front of the crowd, and those times really do kind of make me cringe. Sometimes you can see kids in the crowd, and it just feels like this is wrong,” he said.
With those experiences leaving an indelible mark on her mind, there was a time when she didn’t want anything to do with the sport that made her a household name.
“There was a long time, probably 10 years, that I didn’t really want anything to do with wrestling. Like, even if I saw something, my stomach would turn, and I just didn’t want to see it,” she said while talking to Helwani. However, she also added that she has recently done a 360 and slowly started falling in love with it once again.
“And now I’ve done a flip. This is the part of me that is like, I’m just embracing it.”
