A.J. Burnett was suspended six games and fined $2,000 for throwing intentionally at Nelson Cruz of the Rangers on Tuesday night. Burnett threw a pitch toward Cruz?s head in the fifth inning, a pitch that Major League Baseball believed was in retaliation for Vicente Padilla hitting Mark Teixeira twice earlier in the game.

  • Hmm. Whats $88 million minus $2k. Oh yeah, it doesnt matter. Weak move MLB. Weak.
  • Honestly, this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I used to pitch in HS, and it was clear all Burnett tried to do was clear Cruz off the plate, due to Cruz's homer earlier. Bad call by the MLB.
  • I saw this game and actually think it was slightly more than that. Padilla on the Rangers deliberately nailed Tex twice. Burnett came back and defended his teammate. He did it once to make a statement. Both teams were warned and that was the end of the matter. That's baseball. I do agree though it was a bad move by MLB 'cause this stuff happens all the time and plenty worse that goes un-noticed. Not sure why the are singling thing one out.
  • Not bad integration
  • It was a message and nothing more. After the warning, nothing else happened. MLB is setting a bad precedence. It's one that they can't consistently enforce. Was Padilla suspended?
  • I don't understand Your all star hitter get dwinged twice and the picture gets a warning and then one pitch near the head of a so so player is 6 games and $ 2,000, really come on MLB just is trying to act as if they care. It the part of the game, quite making baseball a wippy sport!

Sammy, You Didn’t Retire

Sammy Sosa announced his retirement Wednesday. Of course, when no team wants you, your retirement wasn’t really your choice. “Everything I achieved, I did it thanks to my perseverance, which is why I never had any long, difficult moments [as a baseball player]. Omar Vizquel talks about Elvis Andrus

Even before the Rangers embarked on this six-game road trip and before Elvis Andrus once again put up some big-time highlights on one of baseball's biggest stages, veteran Omar Vizquel was quick to praise his pupil. One of the biggest reasons the Rangers signed Vizquel was to have him mentor Andrus. I talked with Vizquel for about 10 minutes or so just before the team left and...

Cowlishaw games heads to Fenway Park

Brandon McCarthy's performance -- 4 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 79 pitches -- made Pabloesque a winner. He had McCarthy going 4 innings. His line: 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 0 K, 80 pitches. Nice. That's three of the last four for Pablo, I believe. Good stuff. Ranger Fan in Utah, Dustyn, Tommy and Pabloesque had Jason Jennings as the first reliever in the game. Jason1974...

Only Robert in Cedar Hill and Jamie In Forney had the innings pitched exactly right. The grand prize winner: Jamie in Forney, who was close on the hits, walks and pitches. Though you have to have the innings pitched...

Chris Davis ripped a two-out run-scoring ground-rule double in the sixth that chased Red Sox starter Brad Penny and gave the Rangers a 5-0 lead. Fenway Park had been very kind to the Boston Red Sox this season. They had also won their last 8 games against the Texas Rangers there as well. But Kevin Millwood and Ian Kinsler made sure that changed tonight. Millwood threw seven strong innings and Kinsler hit a 3-run homer to help the Rangers to a [...]

Rangers Give Away Series to Yankees

Here are my thoughts on the New York series...

Yankees, Rangers now tied

New York scored five times against Brandon McCarthy in the fifth inning to erase a four-run deficit and take a 6-5 lead. Ian Kinsler, though, launched a solo homer in the sixth to forge a 6-6 tie as the Yankees bat in the bottom of the inning. The first seven Yankees reached in the fifth, and the Rangers got a break when Hideki Matsui lined into a double play for the first two outs...
