Kevin Curtis and The Little Offense That Might

No position on the Eagles' roster comes under more scrutiny than that of the wide receiver.

Since the departure of Terrell Owens, Eagles' fans have been clamoring for a receiver of Owens' ability. Prayers were almost answered this offseason when the team nearly snagged Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, and Roy Williams.

The team also had the chance to sign former Denver receiver Javon Walker, as well as former Raider Jerry Porter. However, no new receivers ended up in Eagles' green during the free agency spending frenzy.

It was not until the Draft that head coach Andy Reid and company snagged a receiver in Cal's electrifying DeSean Jackson.

The first mini camps have come and gone without any meaningful new additions to the position.

This begs the question: Can the Eagles make a Super Bowl run with these receivers?

Reid thinks so.

"We did a tremendous job statistically in just about every area," Reid said in a press conference last week. "We'll work very hard at [red zone production], and we'll be fine there."

CLICK IT!!!!!! just for the record i dig Curtis, always have & well Jackson is gonna be off the hook soon enough!!! as usual, i'm stayin positive.......u read & decide how u feel,

peace out

Gonna be tough to get past the Cowboys in the NFC. IMO. All they did was make there team even better than it already was. So like I have been saying since the draft Steelers/Cowboys superbowl...

everything in football it tough ;0 !!! that's what makes this sport the best around !!!!

LOL that should say IS TOUGH lmao!!!

haha the cowboys have to A. get by the eagle's sick defense and B. win a playoff game,
looks to me like neither can or will occur
E-A-G-L-E-S EALGLES

Steelers in the Superbowl??? Have you seen their schedule? I doubt they'll make the playoffs. Not to mention the fact that their weak O-line is even weaker with the lose of Faneca.

maybe but we got mendenhall and my man parker crazy sick one two punch not to mention sweed now so i'm a happy man

They may think that they are tougher but as long as the Birds keep their heads in the game we can defeat them not once but both times this year

In a west coast offense you dont need a great WR! It would help though, but with that stacked defense I do think the Eagles can make a big run this year.

uestion.... what was the last west coast offense that won a superbowl?

i think it was green bay?

yea jerry rice was average!!!!! (joking)

your brilliant

SB prediction: Eagles and ravens
SB knowledge: EAGLES WON THE SUPER BOWL!

now c'mon guys , no thumbs downing unless it's just nastyness, ya know the drill ;0 !!!
football is a tough gig, that's what we love about it, with that said...everyone has there opinion: as long as it isn't nasty & in need of heavy meds........ROCK IT!!!!!!

um...Eagles vs. Jaguars in the SB.
Birds win.

Im pretty sure we lead the league in dropped passes this season also .. or was that last year?

NFC playoffs- Dallas, Philly, Minnesota, Arizona, Carolina, Seattle

AFC- Pittsburgh, N.E., Indianapolis, SD, Jacksonville, Houston(maybe Cleveland)

pretty good, but Carolina? we'll be taking a top 15 pick off of them...hehe

i would love them to go winless but its not too likely

Yeah LOL Eagles Vs Jaguars it just sounds right i give all the respect they deserve to the Jaguars n i thought they should of gone to at least the SB but that will be a great matchup.... JAX Vs Eagles....

Eagles Winning it finally an at least they have a SB Ring LOL I cant Wait

It wasn't that we had a BAD offense last year (we ranked 6th in the NFL). The trouble was staying consistent and scoring enough points to win games. Maybe passing the ball 8 billion times has something to do with it. If we actually used a little more power running when we got near the goal line, then maybe our offense wouldn't be as sluggish?

Great point Latin. I think because of the fact that we finished 8-8 and didn't make the playoffs our offense gets overlooked. I'm not making excuses but there were some games that we lost, but didn't and it wasn't because of the offense. Green Bay, special teams. Chicago, defense. Nothing we can do about now though.

I would say that being ranked 6 in total offense in the NFL is pretty damn good considering our QB wasn't 100% healthy all season, even when we went 3-0 the final 3 games of the season, he wasn't 100% healthy. Missing LJ hurt as well. I'm not saying he's a premier TE, but he does know the offense and he does creat match up problems.

I also think DeSean Jackson will be a big help in the return game and hopefully put the offense in great field position, something we lacked last year. I mean our biggest play on special teams came from our starting RB.

Yeah we didn't get a #1like we all hoped for, but I think we can still have an impact with what we have. Staying healthy is the key.

exactly....that Chicago game never would have happened with the D we are lining up with this season....that will make a good difference. I our D(which was good last year overall) is better, and our return team is better....it should help our healthier O. we certainly should not be 8-8 or worse. If we win the close games we'll be a heck of a lot better already..... we know what we need to do, just hoping all works out well

thats why we shouldve took a back like a mendnhall

Exactly, although I'm happy with Trevor Laws and DeSean, besides, that first round pick from the panthers next year, will be part of that trade, so who knows, that could easily be a top 10 pick.

instead of a scat back

sb prediction is Eagles vs Chargers

I agree with dfmcnabb. The Eagles were very close in most of their games. The offense is a lot better than many people are giving it credit for being. With a healthy McNabb, strengthened Special Teams play, and the addition of Jackson and Booker, the Eagles will be a handful for any team in the NFL. I expect for them to go deep into the playoffs, with a good chance to win the Super Bowl.

Good post BUT I don't see the eagles making the super bowl with their receivers. Lets be honest the NFC East is going to be brutal this year, and I would not be surprised to see any of the teams having good success in the playoffs.
But back to the eagles. I think Kevin Curtis is a quality receiver, but I just don't think you can count on Jackson to be able to produce consistently on offense, I see him making some impact but he will be disappearing for stretches like most rookies do.
Hopefully I don't get thumbed down into oblivion by all the hardcore eagles fans out there

I gave you a thumbs up WJBROWN3. You made valid points and I have to agree with you on some parts.I do think we can make the Superbowl and win it (we made it to the SB without T.O during the playoffs in 2004 if you recall). You are right about most rookies though. But I hope DeSean makes a ton of plays this year and actually improves without playing the "disappearing act".

The difference between this season and the last Superbowl run relies in a stronger west coast stance.
The show we had on the field with T.O. were consisted of big plays above 10 yards. We don't need any of that style to win.

Moving the ball consistently, and making short passes with dependable recievers is as effective if not more effective then the big plays of the past. It also doesn't hurt that we now can balance the playbook as far as running/throwing. We threw the ball more then any other team during that superbowl run, it almost crippled us as far as making the game unilateral. Now we are more dynamic on offense. Although the weaponry that McNabb has is not as intimidating; They are more dynamic when used properly.

Brown, Jackson and Curtis are all fast...

Flats,Screens. L.J. tripping up the middle, It'll be like the "Staley Days" Only difference is that I believe this receiving core is more dependable, than Freddie Mitchel, James Thrash, and Todd Pinkston.

"The little offense that might..."

Touching... They definitely can do it... They just need to tell themselves they CAN... and just Get it done.

I don't think this offense has enough to get it done against the AFC, but it should excel against the NFC. Our receivers will have a tough time against Dallas, for sure. I think Marty and Reid will have to design some schemes to get Curtis isolated and off of jams.

We beat the Cowboys towards the end of the season, and we didn't even have all our health. Shawn Andrews wasn't even 100% They'll have a hardest time against Dallas, but they are beatable. And as far as the AFC goes, the only teams that scared me were the Pats, and honestly... The Jaguars. The Pats lost some steam, and the running game is terrifying to the Eagles, however we patched some gaps last season, as well as this season.

Curtis is a hustler. 5 should be back to 100% ability and I can't wait to see how these two link up now that Curtis is thick into the offensive scheme. Nice first year tho.
Reggie needs to have his coming out party this season, or somebody else has got to step up.
LJ is back. Hank Baskett, maybe?
And then there's Jason Avant.
Westbrook & Booker as split backs?

Jeez, can September get here already? These damn Philly Soul games aint helping, doctor?

Romo's gonna flame out eventually (hes gotta playoff bug), and Crybaby Butterfingers has been losing a step each year.
The Giants aint gonna repeat, and the 'Skins...? *cough*.
I think we'll see another NFC East power shift off I-95.

I am one of the few that agree with you about Romo. I think he is over rated and over hyped, and that is why the Cowboys are not as strong as some people think they are. The battle for supremacy in the NFC East will be between the Eagles and the Giants. One name on the Eagles that I do not see poping up a lot is Buckhalter. Go back and look at the tapes of the games from last year. In the second half of the year, he seem to have a lot more of his burst back. I think the Eagles running game will be tough and it will compliment the passing game.I think Special Teams are drastically improved over last year and the offense will start drives with far better field position. I know you can't forget about injuries, but I still see them going deep into the playoffs with a chance for the Super Bowl.

to say the battle for the nfc east does not even involve dallas is crazy...please tell me y romo is overrated?? he messed up in seattle two yrs ago...he is human and lets not forget mcnabb has definetly had his share of mistakes as well...the giant playoff loss cannot be fully put on romo's shoulders...if u watched the game then u know what I mean...the nfc east is not gonna be a two team race...its gonna involve most likely 3 teams maybe all 4 b/c the skins r even improved...but to say dallas won't be involved is pretty bold

I am not going to Bash Romo... It is too easy, a factor we forgot is that he is young. Manning had the playoff bug, but now he has a ring. Any given Sunday. But I agree, The Giants, will not repeat, the top of the NFC EAST talent wise are the Cowboys, and the Eagles. The AFC can be taken this year. If the Giants beat the Patriots, it is impossible to rule out any NFC East team that makes the playoffs as a Superbowl contender, as the talent has clearly increased.

I like the eagles and jacksonville jags----if they get any production out of rb booker---use him in a two back set---and if the wr's on same page --they could win hfc east---I like the defense-if lito stays---DT are set and rushers

The thing about when we had TO was it was exciting to watch Mcnabb to Owens...And Owens sometimes made something big out of nothing..like the game in denver when mcnabb threw that pass to TO at the 5 yard line i think and he took it 95 yards to the house...Thats what the eagles fans miss..Owens also opened up things for other no name receivers...Thats why we want a # 1 cuz with a # 1 Mcnabb and westbrook and the offense are so explosive...We don't need one but we want one...

could not have said it better myself but right now it looks like another season where andy tries to put that square peg in that round hole once again-

My point exactly!!!!!sdmyers77 and tell me the fo does not know this!!!!!

what does fo stand for?

FRONT OFFICE---FOR ANY NFL TEAM SDMYERS77

thanks ...to answer your response yes Im sure they know that....Im sure they want a #1 also but there aren't any available right now..

uh duh we kinda made attempts to get Larry Fitzgerald and Randy Moss in the offseason, so to say the FO did nothing in regards to a #1 WR this offseason is blasphemy

i dont understand why our offence is so tiny?? didnt we rank in the top 10 last year for offense ??? and haven't we gotten to the NFC championship before witha roster like this??? ever heard that DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS??? GUESS NOTYOU GUYS ARE ALL WRAPPED UP IN THE OFFENSE AND WORRYING TOO MUCH ABOUT OUR OFFENCE... WE HAVE Westbrook... a great weapon.... the curtis who is solid.... reggie is solid as well and jackson is only going to help us out with the speed we have on offense booker adds help..... stop worring about us.... we'll be 13-3 this year watch
