2009: Simply put, this past season was Damaso Marte’s worst. April was a tough month for Marte as the setup man, as he pitched 5.1 innings in 7 games, allowing 9 hits, 9 earned runs, and 3 home runs, with a record of 0-1. After feeling discomfort in his throwing shoulder (left), the 34-year-old was placed on the 15-day DL with left shoulder tendinitis on May 3 (retroactive April 26); RHP Phil Hughes was called up from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as his replacement. [Note**: Marte complained of shoulder soreness while pitching for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic]. Marte was cleared by Dr. James Andrews in June, but recieved a setback as the pain continued. He began a second rehab assignment in late July, and was finally re-activated on August 21. After missing nearly 4 months, Marte showed no improvement from his woeful April. In 14 games for the remainder of the season, Marte went 8 innings in 14 games, allowing 6 hits and 6 runs (5 earned) and a 1-2 record. ...
