While San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh didn’t announce
his starting quarterback for Sunday’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints
yesterday, the team is proceeding with plans to start Colin Kaepernick over
Alex Smith, according to an ESPN report.
However, the team is proceeding with plans to start Colin
Kaepernick against the Saints, a team source told ESPN.
Harbaugh said it does
no good for his team and organization to announce which quarterback will be
under center Sunday. Smith was cleared to play medically after passing a
concussion test, but Kaepernick played well in his start Monday against the
Chicago Bears. He completed 16 of 23 pass attempts for 243 yards and two
touchdowns.
Smith was a limited participant in practice Friday and
continued to wear he black non-contact jersey. He hasn’t played poorly this
season, but he’s still expected to be Kaepernick’s backup for at least one more
week.
