Here at Turn On The Jets, we decided to take a page out of Robert Mays book over at Grantland (a polite way of saying rip his article idea off) by counting down the 115 days until the New York Jets kick off, with a daily reason to get excited about their return. Mays has the whole NFL to work with, we only have the Goddamn Jets…now there is a challenge, step your game up Mays! We continue today with the return of Santonio Holmes (Note, you can track this entire series right here) I’m sure there were some scoffs at this headline. Yes, Santonio Holmes was recently mentioned here and had his share of struggles in 2010 and then missed most of last season with an injury. BUT, let’s not forget what Holmes is heading into this Jets season…the team’s most proven and capable offensive playmaker. Defensive coordinators have to be accountable for Holmes who can score from anywhere on the field and has a long history of making clutch plays. Jets fans best memories of Holmes are from the 2010 season, when he seemingly caught a game winning pass every week. Yet, the best game Holmes ever played from start to finish as New York Jet? It was last season agains the Miami Dolphins in week 3, when he hauled in 9 catches for 147 yards on 14 targets along with drawing 3 penalties for 22 more yards. Simply put, Holmes took the game over from the wide receiver position. If he can give that kind of effort on a weekly basis, the Jets offense is getting a legitimate number one receiver. Let’s hope ‘Tone is fully recovered from surgery on his foot and ready to dust off a few flight boy celebrations for old times sake. - NEW YORK DAILY NEWS STORY PITCH OF THE DAY - 1100 words criticizing Antonio Cromartie for talking to Newsday about how he is teaching the younger players on the team how to manage money. An anonymous observer close to the gas station Cromartie frequently stops at notes that “yeah, he drives a Prius…a Prius with RIMS! Beyond that, whenever he gets gas he buys TWO bags of chips. Some guys are just never satisfied.” RANDOM JET OF THE DAY – RYAN YARBOROUGH! - A 2nd round pick in 1994, Yarborough played a grand total of 29 games for the Jets, finishing with 24 receptions and 3 touchdowns. NICE!
