On Sept. 1st teams could expand their active rosters to include the entire 40man roster. Since then the Mets have gone two players over 25 men with the return of David Wright and the call-up of Josh Thole. They currently have 44 players on the the roster but five players are on the 60 day DL, leaving them one roster spot. The Mets are still carrying three questionable players; Argenis Reyes, Andy Green and Arturo Lopez. As I said before if these players don't have the value to be called up then why bother having them on the roster. Fernando Nieve, Oliver Perez, Johan Santana and Jose Reyes are still listed on the 15 day DL ( which is not a replaceable roster spot), with their seasons over, if the Mets needed a spot any or all of them could be moved to the 60 day DL. If the Mets needed a roster spot they could easily find them. Buffalo's season ended yesterday, I exchanged tweets with Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News said LHRP Adam Bostick and OF Jesus Feliciano should get ...

Mile High Meltdown: Mets Fall To Rockies 5-2

Tim Redding’s late season renaissance continued, as he enjoyed his third consecutive solid outing.  However, his enjoyment of the game was short-lived, as party pooper Brian Stokes gave up three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the second time in five games, including a bases loaded two-run pinch-hit single to former Yankee [...]

This is more a reference post for later in the off season but here is a look at the budget .The Mets are already obligated to 89.6MM ( Wagner's 1MM taken out of the budget & Beltran's deferment) for next year to only eight players. Santana-- 21MMBeltran...

Keep Be-Lee-ving

One of the holes the Mets need to fill for the 2010 season is first base, Daniel Murphy was named the everyday first baseman after Carlos Delgado got injuried. Murphy has done fairly well as a replacement with good defense and an average bat. First base is usually a position for power hitters and Murphy will not [...]

Sullivan, Tatis lead Mets past Cubs 6-2

Cory Sullivan homered and made a diving catch in left field to help the New York Mets, boosted by Bobby Parnell's stellar start, beat the Cubs 6-2 on Friday night. Pinch-hitter Fernando Tatis came through with a tiebreaking single that triggered a five-run eighth inning. Sullivan had an RBI single during the outburst and Omir Santos added a two-run single.

Brian Schneider: End of the Road for His New York Mets Career?

Brian Schneider's tenure with the Mets the last two seasons has no doubt been a roller coaster, physically and emotionally. Schneider and Ryan Church were brought to the Mets by the Washington Nationals in the winter of 2008 in exchange for Lastings Milledge, who just did not fit into the Mets plans or the clubhouse. Milledge did not seem to want to abide by the hierarchy of...

Mets Win First Battle of Mediocrity Against Cubs; Thank God for Grabow!

It's as though the minute Carlos Zambrano was out of the game the Mets came to life.Only Super Sully could solve Big Z last night...Other than a solo homer by Scott Sullivan to give them a 1-0 lead they held until Angel Pagan let a pop up drop in front of him for a double (which was actually an out considering the ump blew the call on Francouer's bullet to 2nd base that should...

Wright Time To Come Back For New York Met Fans

On Tuesday David Wright made his glorious return to the New York Mets lineup after taking a 94 mph fast ball to the head about 3 weeks ago. Based on the poor season the Mets are having this year it would of been easy for Wright to shut it down for the final month of the season.  The Mets are currently 60—74 and 18.5 games out of 1st in the NL East and have been crippled...

Beltran Impresses in Brooklyn

Since I live about 15 minutes from Keyspan Park, I decided to head over and catch my only chance to see Carlos Beltran play for the Cyclones. Beltran was very impressive at the plate and on the base paths. I kind of expected him to play very conservatively but to my surprise he was very [...]

Some love for Pat Misch

#48 LHP Pat Misch, congratulations on the first career victory in the major leagues. It's a testament to his talent that Misch has lasted this long without earning a win. Misch had tied a major league record by going 0-12 in starts, overall; he's made 55 appearances since 2006 without recording a single win. If he didn't have at least decent stuff he would be long gone...

Don’t Get Too Excited About the Pitching

I know, I know. There’s very little to get excited about, Mets fans. As such, the temptation is to look for the promise of things to come in the recent outings of Pat Misch and Tim Redding. Resist the temptation. Tim Redding, through the narrow prism of the second half, 2009, looks like a pretty respectable pitcher. After [...]
