As I mentioned in my previous post, the Twins have designated reliever Luis Ayala for assignment and called up Bobby Keppel. The move didn't make much sense at the time, as Ayala wasn't the worst pitcher in the bullpen and Keppel certainly isn't much of an upgrade. If anything, Sean Henn is the one who should have been DFA'd, since he's a left-handed reliever...

David Ortiz is starting to find his groove.
Ortiz went 2-for-3 with three RBI knocking in his 1,000th run batted in with a three-run homer in the fourth inning. Jason Varitek also homered in the sixth inning.
Jon Lester picked up his sixth win of the season pitching six innings, yielding six hits, three earned runs, two walks and six strikeouts.

Predictably good story here by Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci on Joe Mauer.
There's a lot here, including the fact that Mauer apparently has a log cabin in the Minnesota woods somewhere that's big enough for a bowling alley and batting cage.
