The Mariners place Erik Bedard on the disabled list. His inflamed shoulder didn’t heal fast enough:
Bedard, 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA in 11 starts, has not pitched since June 7. The 30-year-old missed a start in Colorado last weekend with the inflammation before being placed on the DL on Wednesday, retroactive to June 8.

None other than Mike Carp just emerged onto the field for early batting practice, shook some hands, and is getting ready to step into the cage.
Not sure yet whose spot he's taking, but thought you'd like to know.
The left-handed-hitting Carp is hitting .299 with 10 homers and 32 RBI for Tacoma with a .412 on-base percentage and .517 slugging percentage. He also has 16 doubles...

It's not official yet, but there's a strong possibility that Erik Bedard, who missed his last start with shoulder inflammation is headed to the disabled list. In fact, bank on it. His bullpen session today has been canceled, and as I reported earlier, Mike Carp is here from Tacoma.

Sitting up in the San Diego press box with colleagues Jim Street, Ryan Divish and Shannon Drayer, watching Erik Bedard going through a throwing session off flat ground. On a positive note, I suppose you could say the Mariners have come a long way from where they were a year ago today. That's when John McLaren was fired as manager, just three days after the dismissal of Bill Bavasi as GM.
