Kevin Kouzmanoff is a 28 y/o right handed 3B who is arbitration eligible and expected to receive a significant raise. The Padres maybe unwilling to pay Kouzmanoff what he will earn, especially with Chase Headley ready to take the position over full time.But the Mets don't need a 3B, what they could use though is a younger version of Fernando Tatis. The two players are strikingly similar offensively and defensively, Tatis is a lifetime .266/.345/.444 while Kouz is .261/.308/.435. However; Kouz is averaging 550 Abs while Tatis is in the mid 300ABs. Both are natural 3B, prior to coming to the Mets Tatis had 6 major league games at 1B and while Kouz has never played the position in the majors he has 6 AAA games under his belt. If a defensively challenged guy like Murphy can play 1B then a potential gold glove 3B ( SD campaigned hard for him this year) should be able to pick it up with out a problem.
