Again, we're hearing rumors that Ian Snell could be headed to the Yankees. The latest is that the Yanks have scouts watching him pitch for the Pirates AAA team today.Snell isn't going to be the Yankees savior but he's shut down AAA hitters, has experience in the bullpen and rotation, and has a fairly dramatic ERA/FIP split. Sort of a meh move if it does happen. I hope they can get something better than Snell beforethe deadline.

Well, no. The Rumbunter team was impressed by him in spring training. Some of you called it a man crush [...]

Brian Myrow celebrates his game-winning hit with teammates Lastings Milledge and Ian Snell (Cubbie Nation)
No, I've not met my untimely demise, so sorry to those e-mailers who seem to keep wishing it. You know who you are. No, I'm sitting in a hotel room in Toronto, a few days into my summer tour around baseball.
I'm actually in the middle of a...
The worst case scenario
A team that hasn't scored since Friday doesn't need to face Tim Lincecum. Too bad for the Pirates that they don't really get a say in the matter. Paul Maholm and Lincecum kick off a three-game set in San Fran at 10:15 tonight. Freddy Sanchez is scratched, but because of his gimpy knee and not for more nefarious reasons. As far as we know.
West Virginia combines for no-hitter
Newly acquired Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Hunter Strickland, added in the Adam LaRoche trade, combined with Diego Moreno for a no-hitter in his first start for the West Virginia Power, the Pirates Class A affiliate.

D-Backs blank Pirates for 2nd straight day, 9-0
Max Scherzer was dominant.
It’s a simple, yet accurate statement. The hard throwing right hander baffled the Pittsburgh Pirates for 7 innings, and Gerardo Parra had a career-high 4 rbis in the Diamondbacks’ 9-0 win over the Bucs.
Scherzer threw 109 pitches. Eighty-five (78%) of them were strikes. In his 18 starts [...]
Blanked again
There isn’t much to say about this one. Virgil Vasquez started and was pretty awful (4 runs in 3 innings). The relief efforts of Jeff Karstens (3 runs in 3.2 innings) and Matt Capps (2 runs in 1 inning) didn’t help, either.
Arizona’s hard-throwing Max Scherzer mowed down the offense, and the Bucs were shut out [...]
why can't i always have my way? why doesn't everybody like me?
My brother's taking an August vacation with his wife and daughter. He is spending a week in Pittsburgh. Who takes a vacation in Pittsburgh? And why am I so jealous?I mention this because macho shithead Van Every's a Pirate now. And because longtime IL guy Garrett Jones has found a happy home in Pittsburgh. Too bad he's too fat to play center field.Charlie Zink won his...
