There were four games on the farm yesterday and the affiliates won three of them. There was a pitcher?s duel in Double-A between one of Toronto?s better pitching prospects and a Double-A veteran better known for being a minor part of the biggest trades of the past few years. Lansing won with a timely homer, demonstrating that when a team gets runners on with two out there?s no rule you have to strand them on base. Production from the bottom of Dunedin?s lineup and some good middle relief propelled them to a comfortable win and Las Vegas won behind Brett Cecil. Portland 6 @ Las Vegas 8 - BoxscoreBrett Cecil went 6 innings and only gave up one run. He struck out five and surrendered three hits and a pair of walks. Bryan Bullington had two scoreless innings of relief before Davis Romero and Jeremy Accardo ran into problems and turned an 8-1 lead into an 8-6 final. Romero gave up four hits to the five batters he faced and turned the ball over to Accardo who allowed three hits of his own...

A Night On The Town With Alex Rios

newVideoPlayer("/riosbum_deadspin.flv", 506, 423,"");Alex Rios was 0-for-5 last night with 5 strikeouts. Oops. Obviously, the only logical response was to wait outside a charity event so you can heckle him on the way to his car. Actually, on second thought ... don't ever do this. You're not a big man, because you called Alex Rios a bum almost to his face...

Alex Rios Gets Into It With A Moron

Following Alex Rios' golden sombrero Thursday, the following fracas ensued (h/t: Fanhouse via BTF): The moral is: do not argue with idiots.

Alex Rios Apologizes for Platinum Sombrero-Inspired YouTube Fan Tirade

Ladies and gentleman, the moment we’ve all been waiting for finally came. Yes that’s right, we had our first platinum sombrero of the season. As Gilbert and I were discussing in the comments, Alex Rios of the Blue Jays took an 0-for-5 with five strikeouts against the Angels on Thursday, earning the rare [...]

Alex Rios…. Who Gives A F@ck?

Alex Rios gets paid $6.4 million a year.  Among the biggest wastes of money on the Blue Jays roster.  Some reason every media idiot and baseball pool mag projects this guy to be a .300 hitter/30 HR/100 RBI guy, but if you look at his stats, none of his years come close to that except [...]

Yardwork: More Like Steinke

Blue Jays 9, Royals 3: TBL was right, this Greinke kid is the sucks. 5 innings pitched, 9 hits, 7 runs. I guess I can get rid of my clever Royal Flush t-shirt. Wait, is it ironic yet? Alex Rios had his best game in days, going 1-4 and only striking out twice. Mets 3, Nationals [...]

Are You a Bum?

Poor Alex Rios. You start off by having a really bad day. You strike out 5 times in a game Thursday against the Angels of Anaheim. Then, to make matters worse, you essentially blow off a kid looking for an autograph after the game as you are heading towards your car. You get yelled at and heckled by fans who see this, they call you a "Bum" among other things. You get mad...

Alex Rios: Ole!

Alex Rios went o-for-5 Thursday with not four, but five strikeouts in the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. In the unforgiving world of baseball, we call that a platinum sombrero. This is his second career five-strikeout game, which is pretty tough to accomplish.

An athlete's worst possible day

Yesterday in Major League Baseball saw two of the worst possible days an athlete can have. Toronto's Alex Rios went 0-5 with five strikeouts in a loss to Los Angeles of Anaheim and Detroit's Dontrelle Willis pitched 21/3 innings of no-hit ball but gave up five earned runs on five walks and a hit batsman (the reliever promptly gave up a hit to knock in the inherited runners...

Adam Lind and Lyle Overbay homer as Blue Jays pound Greinke, hand Royals eighth-straight loss

Up next for Angels: Thursday at Toronto

John Lackey faces the Blue Jays' Brian Tallet in a day game. AT TORONTO

Oh Ricky, You're So Fine

Ricky Romero vs Zack Greinke. Obviously no contest. It's a little surprising to see Adam Lind and Lyle Overbay carrying the offense, but hey - as long as someone is carrying it. It had been Scutaro and Hill. Eventually it will be Wells and Rios!Tom Glavine is not happy with the Braves, as you can imagine. He's especially irritated about being "paraded out to pitch"...

Recap: Toronto vs. Kansas City

Lyle Overbay hit a solo homer, doubled and knocked in three, as the Toronto Blue Jays handed the Kansas City Royals their eighth straight loss with a 9-3 drubbing in the opener of a three-game series at Rogers Centre.

Blue Jays rough up Greinke, beat Royals 9-3

Adam Lind and Lyle Overbay hit solo home runs and the Toronto Blue Jays gave Kansas City ace Zack Greinke a rare pounding in handing the Royals their eighth straight loss, 9-3 on Friday night.
