Sons of Steve Garvey:
The Red Sox have released Julio Lugo, making him the second ex-Dodger to be let go this week after Cleveland released Matt Herges. The Rockies snapped up Herges and Lugo looks certain to be picked up by another team.
But it's Lugo's assessment of his failed relationship with Red Sox that caught my eye. From the Boston Herald:
"When you see a good looking girl, you get married and sometimes things don’t work out," Lugo said. "I gave it my best and unfortunately things didn’t work out. This is the best for both parties. I wanted it to work out but it didn’t."
(Emphasis mine.) Wow, is it really that easy? Living in Los Angeles, I see many good-looking girls. (Checking Lugo's quote.) Next step: Get married. (If I had only known.)
Actually, Lugo's quote should go more like this:
"When you see a good looking girl, you want to talk to her but you're deathly afraid of rejection so you down a beer or two or eight but by then she's ...

Lugo a-Go-Go
Metstradamus turns up the sarcasm to 11 discussing the Mets possible acquisition of Julio Lugo.
Embarrassment Of Riches
Obviously, the mere thought of Julio Lugo joining the Mets spurred the Mets to play some of their best baseball of the year in their 5-1 win over the Atlanta Braves. I'm sure that Johan Santana, who was legitimately brilliant, did what he could to block out all of the exciting speculation, but who could blame the rest of the team if they let the excitement get to their heads?Heck...
The Julio Lugo Experiment Comes to a Merciful Ending
It was bad for Julio Lugo right from the start.Lugo called Red Sox management during the winter they signed him, saying he had a sickness that resulted in the loss of 15 or 20 pounds. When he showed up for Spring Training, he lacked both strength and quickness. He started slowly and didn't recover, never again becoming the player he was with Tampa.Ultimately, Lugo never lived up...
Julio Lugo ReleasedLet me just add my $.02 to Julio Lugo being DFA'd by the Red Sox. I'm glad he's gone and I'm also glad that Lugo took the high road. It may have been Lugo's fault that he was so bad in the field but it wasn't his fault that the Red Sox overpaid him by so much. A friend of mine went to a Red Sox game last year with his daughter and he said Lugo couldn't have been...
Source: Julio Lugo Will Be a Met
I just was informed by Joe Demayo that NYBD sources expect Julio Lugo to join the Mets once he clears waivers. If you remember, back in the offseason of 2006, Minaya was spurned by Lugo when he accepted the Red Sox 4 year contract offer. It was reported that Lugo felt he had a better [...]
Redding is on way out, Lugo may be on deck
The Daily News has learned that the Mets were prepared to release Tim Redding as soon as today. Meanwhile, a source revealed that Julio Lugo has been working out at the Mets' complex in the Dominican Republic.
Is Jed Lowrie the Future at Shortstop in Boston?
Exit Julio Lugo; enter Jed Lowrie.
Boston's young shortstop returned to the lineup Saturday in the team's 6-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. The team couldn't get its offense going against Jays' pitcher Marc Rzepczynsk, but one of the Sox' two runs was a homer by—guess who?—Jed Lowrie. Lowrie went 1-for-4 on the day.
Now here's the big question: Does Red Sox GM Theo...
