U.S.S. Mariner:
Franklin Gutierrez has been one of the best things about the Mariners this year. He’s legitimately in the conversation for the best defensive outfielder in baseball, and he might even win the argument. As he showed again last night, he gets a phenomenal jump on balls and takes great routes, making plays that [...]--

Carp’s Debut
Want to know how to get the M’s blogopshere on your side in your major league debut? Do this:
That’s Mike Carp’s first at-bat as a major leaguer. He saw five pitches, staring at all four out of the strike zone. He swung once and tried to hit it to the moon. He [...]--

Carp to MLB, Bedard to 15-day DL
Don’t have much time as I’ve got one foot out the door on my way to PGE Park for Ryan Rowland-Smith’s start, but 1B Mike Carp has been promoted to Seattle while Erik Bedard has been placed on the 15-day DL.
Bedard hitting the DL isn’t a surprise at all. Normally I’d be really disappointed, but [...]
Bedard Disabled
The Mariners place Erik Bedard on the disabled list. His inflamed shoulder didn’t heal fast enough:
Bedard, 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA in 11 starts, has not pitched since June 7. The 30-year-old missed a start in Colorado last weekend with the inflammation before being placed on the DL on Wednesday, retroactive to June 8.
U.S.S [...]

The Seattle Mariners placed second baseman Jose Lopez on the
bereavement list and called up infielder Chris Woodward from the minors.
Phillies place Ibanez on 15-day DL
Phillies left fielder Raul Ibanez has gone on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin.
More pre-game notes: Bedard is fine, and other news
To CWB54, who wondered what my record is doing the Mariners' blog: I am now working on a six-game road losing streak. I did the Texas series in Arlington and the Rockies' series in Denver -- six of the ugliest Mariners' games all year. Once Don Wakamatsu makes the connection, I'm going to be banned from the clubhouse. Remember, mum's the word.
Well, all those...
Lopez Joins Johnson on BL
More tough times for those wearing the Seattle Mariner uniform. Rob Johnson’s mother in law was killed in a car accident while the team was in Colorado. He’s back with the team today and will be added back to the active roster soon. Russell Branyan won’t be placed on the BL, but he’ll be out [...]

Game thread, Mariners vs. Padres, June 18 (plus more notes)
Chris Woodward returns to the major leagues for the first time since 2007, when he spent the entire season with the Braves, hitting .199 in 92 games. He was selected from Tacoma.
"That was my goal this year, to get back to the big leagues,'' he said. "To play well at AAA and show people I can still play. I have a lot left in me, and I know I can play at this level. It's just getting...
A-Rod will learn today how South Florida fans feel about him
When Alex Rodriguez stepped up to bat during a recent Red Sox-Yankees series at Fenway Park, he was serenaded with taunts of, "You do steroids, you do steroids."
A-Rod says he's still working out June bugs
Alex Rodriguez says everyone should be patient. He will hit like a superstar again. He is barely three months removed from hip surgery and isn't quite himself yet. Most things still don't feel as they did before the procedure.
Game thread, Mariners vs. Padres, June 17
I haven't had a chance yet to put up some quotes from the newest Mariner, Mike Carp, who played in Portland last night and was told after the game to head to San Diego in the morning. But the Mariners told him it wasn't 100 percent certain that he would be joining the team. They knew something was wrong with Erik Bedard, but hadn't decided yet to put him on the DL.
