NEW YORK—Johnny Damon’s last on-field action of the season was to touch home plate at Yankee Stadium, scoring on a two-run Hideki Matsui single in the third inning of Game 6 of the World Series. That’s not a bad way to go out, but Damon is hoping it doesn’t mark his final movement in a Yankees uniform. The 35-year-old outfielder is expected to file for free agency soon, but he continues to make it known he would love to keep playing in New York. “Obviously, I’m going to have a lot of options,” Damon said. “I think what it comes down to is what kind of option the Yankees want to give me, or not give me. Why wouldn’t I want to come back? “We have the best owners in baseball and the best team. We have the most revenue and the biggest payroll. Who wouldn’t want to be part of the Yankee tradition? I would like to continue mine, and I feel like I could come back and do a great job again.” My he...

Will The Yanks Go After Bay Or Holliday?

With all the controversy surrounding weather to bring back Johnny Damon or Hideki Matsui, many fans have brought up the idea of signing outfielders Matt Holliday or Jason Bay. To me, when you win a championship, you shouldn't really try to change your team all that much, unless there's a guy like Mark Teixeira or CC Sabathia out there on the market, which this year, there...

Your 2009 World Champion New York Yankees Thrilled Me

Last night, the scrappy, upstart Yankees took down the defending World F'in Champions in a 7-3 game that was never really that close. With the win, the Yanks took the World Series four games to two and, within minutes of receiving the trophy, began speculating on how to dissect and construct the team for the 2010 season. I think it's ridiculous that fans can actually walk...

Vets, Bombers ponder pinstriped future

Boswell: With a mighty Matsui roar, Yanks are back

Boswell: Once Hideki Matsui was the three-time MVP of Japanese baseball, nicknamed Godzilla. Now, he's the World Series MVP of the New York Yankees who, at the expense of Pedro Martínez and the Phillies, has become the chief ghost-buster of new Yankee Stadium.

Hideki Matsui Makes A Statement…

The scuttlebutt has been that once the season was finished, the NY Yankees would make a decision whether to re-sign Johnny Damon or Hideki Matsui to a new contract but that the Yankees would not re-sign both. I do not know when it became apparent to the seers making such pronouncements that frugality had [...]

2009- Baseball Magic

Last night the New York Yankees did something that they haven't done in nearly a decade. They reversed the trend of steady decline I've seen since I first became a fan in '04, they gave many young fans their first championship, they won one for the Boss, they vanquished the demons of '04 and '01 by pummeling an old villain, and they proved to everyone that the...

Manuel decision aw-Phil

It was not quite Grady Little, but it was close. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel left Pedro Martinez in Game 6 last night to face Hideki Matsui in the third inning despite the fact that Matsui had already homered off Martinez. And despite the fac...
