I don't know what to make of this, the Gonzalez information comes in the same article in which Bill Madden said Jason Bay's agent is Scott Boras which simply isn't true ( go here for Bay's actual agent comments on WEEI). It wasn't just that he named Boras but insinuated that one of the reasons he may not re-sign with Boston could be in part be due to the agent's relationship with the organization. But the information in regards to Adrian Gonzalez is quoted by former Padres GM Kevin Towers. According to Towers the Padres simply can't afford to keep Gonzalez. The All-Star 1B would cost a lot normally but a new GM is going to look to fleece a team and make a name for himself, so that he isn't ushered out of town by the fan base for selling the face of the franchise as his first move. Of course I would love to have Gonzalez but I'm not sure I could stomach what he would cost, I'm glad I wouldn't be making those phone calls.Just a reminder, Gonz...

Can the Padres Sign Adrian Gonzalez Long Term?

In 2009, the Padres' payroll ranked 29th in all of baseball with only the frugal Marlins behind them. However, there seemed to be hope on the horizon for a increased payroll when Jeff Moorad became the principal owner of the ballclub:"Next season will now have to be re-evaluated given the Peavy deal," Moorad said. "I'm ultimately comfortable with a payroll...

Former GM expects Padres to eventually trade Adrian Gonzalez

Jed Hoyer, the new general manager of the San Diego Padres, said all the right things during his introductory news conference yesterday, but he fell short of saying what Red Sox fans wanted to hear - that he would trade superstar Adrian Gonzalez to Boston.

Something Else of Manny’s That Doesn’t Sell in Boston

This Passes for Journalism?

Look out Ken Rosenthal, somebody is looking to dethrone you from being baseball's worst reporter with this: The Red Sox are going to be looking to upgrade their offense this winter and have apparently decided not to try to re-sign Jason Bay- whose rep, Scott (Avenging Agent) Boras, has had a long, acrimonious history with them, most recently on display during last winter&...

Cafardo on Gonzalez, Martinez, Webb, Lackey

In his column today, the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo brings us a great deal of tidbits from around the majors: Former Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi and ex-Padres GM Kevin Towers will "likely surface somewhere soon." Cafardo wonders aloud if new Padres GM Jed Hoyer could work out a deal with his former club and deal Adrian Gonzalez to Boston.  One AL...

Jed Hoyer Notes

Jed Hoyer was introduced as the new GM of the Padres yesterday at a press conference.  Notes from the day: Hoyer signed a four-year contract with a club option for 2014, according to Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Tim Sullivan of the U-T quotes Hoyer saying, "I want to build from within."  He does not want to rely on trades and free agent...

Odds & Ends: St. Claire, Bay, Angels

Links for Tuesday... Chat today, 2pm CST. Kerry Wood replied, "Never say never" when asked on ESPN 1000's Waddle and Silvy show about returning to the Cubs after his Indians contract expires.  I was surprised the Cubs didn't offer Wood arbitration a year ago. The Marlins hired Randy St. Claire as their new pitching coach; he received...

Buzz: Giants out on Bay & Holliday, Sox out on Bay

Yesterday, Jon Heyman of SI.com said he believes the Mets big-ticket target will likely end up playing left field. …obviously, the two big free-agent left fielders are Matt Holliday and Jason Bay… According to Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle, “You can forget about the Giants going after Holliday or Bay.” Last week, Heyman said on SI.com that Holliday first [...]

Red Sox to keep an eye on Beltran ?

The Red Sox will be looking to upgrade the offense and the outfield, if Jason Bay isn't part of that equation they maybe calling Omar to inquire about Carlos Beltran. It seems like at least once an off-season we hear a Beltran to Boston rumor, this is nothing more then speculation by the Boston Herald and I don't put much into but I sure it's not the last time Beltran's name is brought...

Matt Holliday or Jason Bay: Who Do the Mets Need in Left Field?

The Mets need an everyday left fielder—on that we can agree—but the question of who Omar Minaya will make the effort to acquire and who he is willing to give up in the process is what fans are concerned about this winter...Read the full article on Bleacher Report...
