The Philadelphia Phillies have picked up Cliff Lee's $9 million option for 2010.
The team announced the expected move on Friday, two days after losing the World Series to the New York Yankees. Lee's contract expires after next season, though general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said the team is open to signing the star left-hander to a long-term deal.

In a report for MLB.com, Todd Zolecki says that the Phillies have exercised their option on Cliff Lee.
The option will pay Lee $9 million in 2010, after which he can be a free agent if the two sides cannot work out an extension.

In a report in yesterday’s Philadelphia Inqurier, Andy Martino and and Jim Salisbury say that the Phillies are are undecided on whether to offer a contract extension to Cliff Lee.
