In his first major free agent signing as a general manager, Dayton Moore inked Gil Meche to a 5 year, $55 million dollar contract at the 2006 Winter Meetings. Ironically, it was one of Dayton's most criticized moves, both by Royals-centric fans and writers and the general baseball punditry.
