It's been a while since I've written down my thoughts about this team. It's been a while, really, since I took the time to sit down and think about this team, for whatever reason. In between laughing about how Moises can't stay healthy for six innings straight and then laughing some more about how six innings is, oh, infinity times better than what El Duque has pitched this year, it's hard to really reflect on what has been plaguing the Mets. And in sitting and reflecting, wouldn't I be vindicating their effort this year (I know it's baseball, where intangibles and hustle are made-up terms to make David Eckstein an All-Star and Derek Jeter the best player ever, but come on) by proffering more time to their failures than they have? But that was until the renaissance. Maybe it's too early to dub the Jerry Manuel era the renaissance – after all, one could have called the Victor Zambrano era a great success by the second game of his Mets career (he went seven innings, didn't allow an ear...

With Jerry Manuel giving out this absolutely fantastic quote today, what's the over/under on blogs that post something strikingly similar to this poster below? I'm going to go with 100 and I think I'm being conservative.
Jose Reyes - He's No Jimmy Rollins…
The New York Mets continue to try and challenge the Knicks for the title of most dysfunctional team in New York. A day after firing manager Willie Randolph, Jose Reyes is making his own headlines by throwing a tantrum in Anaheim.
After leading off the game with a single, Reyes appeared to be walking a little gingerly around the first base bag. Interim manager Jerry Manuel (no...
An Open Letter To Jerry Manuel
Dear Jerry,
Congratulations on your recent promotion to manager of the New York Mets. I have already said a prayer for you and I will be sure to light a candle for you on Sunday as well.
You probably have already been warned about staying on Tony Bernazard's good side, and going to the SNY Gift shop and loading up on Loudmouths T-shirts and an SNY cap to wear...
Willie 'splains all
He's got no reason to b.s. any of this. Minaya may have had his own neck on the line by the Wilpon brain trust, and the whole thing may have been breaking his heart, but that Willie had to drag his own firing out of him was lame.
I heard Minaya on "Mike & the Mad Dog" and he claimed that the whole firing was not pretty, but it was pretty much the way he wanted...
Minaya's Folly
The Mets fan base doesn't know what to do with itself. Neither it seems, do my colleagues in the media. The same people that have been calling for Willie Randolph's head since the end of last season, seem to have softened the last week because Randolph showed a sense of humor – for the first time in four years -- about his inevitable situation.
Who The Hell Is Tony Bernazard And Why Do I Hate Him?
A funny thing happened in the last 48 hours or so. I was reading Newsday and some of the other online Mets beat writer blogs and I saw the name Tony Bernazard in one of the titles. I took a sip of my coffee and then muttered "Damn, I really hate this guy!"
"That does it" I thought, "I'm writing a blog about this piece of crap." I stopped and thought...

In Omar We Trusted?
I learned of Willie's demise Tuesday morning on my commute to work. I instantly felt nauseous. I knew that letting Willie go was a strong possibility and I was not necessarily against the move. What made me sick was the handling of it. I understand that it may be standard operating procedures to fire a manager after a game, and sometimes that occurs at night. I think I feel bad...
Hurdle’s Other Dilemma: Replacing Willie Randolph
Four weeks ago, the New York Met made a trip to Coors Field.
Right around that same time, despite rumors that Willie Randolph's Mets tenure was nearing it's end, Clint Hurdle announced that he had selected Randolph as one of his coaches for the all-star game at Yankee Stadium.
Having heard those rumors, and then having watched [...]
The Mets Didn't Fire Randolph; Everyone Else Did
Willie Randolph has been fired, and he has the Internet to thank. And sports talk radio. And the newspapers. And the TV people. New York Mets GM Oscar Minaya? He's the least culpable, ironically -- though he's the guy who pulled the trigger, or to be more accurate, the plug.
Randolph, the now deposed Mets manager, was taken off life support at the rather symbolic time...
Early Morning Madness: Attitude edition
So far, so good. Sure it's only two games, but I like the way Jerry Manuel is handling himself, and more importantly, his team.
Willie Randolph pens his own article
Read Willie Randolph's own article, appearing in the Daily News. It's very cool to see, almost play-by-play, how the whole thing went down between himself and Omar Minaya.
Mystery Solved
For years, nobody has been able to understand why the Mets traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano. The trade defies all logic and reason. Fittingly, BBTF commenter Srul Itza has finally come up with an appropriate explanation: Maybe nobody on the Mets approved the trade. Somebody on the Rays called up as a joke and said they were confirming the trade of Kazmir for Zambrano. Since...

Wille Randolph went from being public enemy #1 to a martyr. Time to stay quiet until the Yankees come calling.
Let's Go Mets! (Turn The Page)
Yes the organization is a mess, but let's turn the page and hope for greatness under Jerry Manuel's leadership.
