It might be a bit early to call it, but Jimmy Rollins and Brad Lidge just wrapped up a statement series by showing that there's a good chance that the worst is behind them. Rollins blasted a leadoff home run off Johan Santana to start the game, and Lidge struck out the side to end it. The save was Lidge's second in a row, and Jimmy had five hits in the series along with six RBI.
But the Phils best player today was Joe Blanton, who blanked the Mets for 7.1. Big Joe struck out five and allowed just four hits. He was aided by some great defense, but give him credit for inducing a huge GIDP. Aside from a JC Romero HBP, the 'pen was sharp to, with Chan Ho looking great and Grizzly Lidge looked like his 2008 self. In the first two games, Rodrigo Lopez and Jamie Moyer looked masterful. True, this is a Mets team that is a shell of its opening day self, but these guys put them out on the curb like the trash they are.Of course, it's possible this sweep means no more than the one that preceded it, but screw that noise. It's a holiday weekend and we're celebrating. The Phillies look like they're back, and they still have the return of All-Star starter Raul Ibanez to look forward to. Up next is a four-game set with the Reds and then three with the Pirates. On paper, this should be a good week.
All series long, it was a great showing from the fans at CBP, who sold out the Bank for the holiday weekend and made sure every open space was filled. Now we need those same fans to VOTE SHANE VICTORINO as the NL's Last Chance All-Star.

The new Brad Lidge scares me (and I like it!)
Since returning from the DL a week and a half ago, Phillies closer Brad Lidge hasn’t had many opportunities to close out games. His first appearance last Friday against the Blue Jays went horribly wrong (in a non-save situation), then on Sunday he came in to close it and got some help escaping that [...]

A Sweep Would Be Nice
Going into this series against the Mets, I had zero confidence that anything good would come of it. Having taken the first two games rather a-matter-of-factly the Phils are in a position to perform the coveted 3-game sweep. One obstacle- Darth Santana. I don't hate Johan, I fear Johan. The Phillies have never beaten him, lifetime- 4 wins in 8 starts, 55 ip, 49 k's, 2.95 ERA,...
