Back in 2006, a game thread was posted at Fire Brand (link doesn't work, sorry) in which Julian Tavarez gave up a game-winning grand slam to Jason Kubel. Former Fire Brander Andrew Lipsett wanted Delcarmen in the game; I defended Taveras. Lipsett's point:MDC hasn't proven he can because he hasn't gotten the chance to. Tavarez hasn't proven he can handle it because he's been given many chances, and has shown himself to be grossly incompetent. In that scenario, you try the guy who hasn't proven he can, rather than the one who's rather spectacularly proven that he CAN'T.
Put it this way: You're trying to get to the other side of a large brick wall. The method you've been trying involves running at it really fast and seeing if it breaks. Every time, you just wind up with a headache. Then someone hands you a trampoline; you don't know that it'll get the job done, but you also don't know that it won't. Would you rather keep ru...

Manny Delcarmen? You SUCK!
Manny Delcarmen BLOWS. He cannot pitch his way out of a paper bag which is wet & open. WHY does he remind me of the TOTALLY-USELESS ARMANDO BENITEZ? He couldn't find the Pope in Vatican City, let alone find home plate. ...
KC 5, BOS 1: Byrd Gets His Wings Clipped In First
Seven sterling innings could not undo the wrongs of the first inning, as the Red Sox lose the second game of a four game series to the Kansas City Royals, 5-1.
Red Sox starter Paul Byrd gave up five earned runs in the first inning, a deficit from which the Red Sox could not recover. To his credit, Byrd composed himself and ended up maintaining those five earned runs over 6.2 strong...

Jailed fan gets conjugal visit with Red Sox in Kansas City
Perhaps I've been wildly misled about this whole jail thing, but I was under the impression that being behind bars and missing out on the simpler pleasures in life was pretty much the whole point of being punished. To my surprise, that's apparently that's not the case in Iowa. On Wednesday, a judge in Van Buren County let Randy Barker out of jail so that the 'diehard...

This is no time for experiments Terry Francona
Last night was a perfect example of "shoulda, coulda, woulda" for the Boston Red Sox.The Red Sox had a commanding lead, blew it, couldn't rally, blew it some more, and eventually lost to the Kansas City Royals. The New York Yankees bowed to the Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers beat the Oakland Athletics, which means the Sox could have gained a game in the American...
