I know you feel raw right now, Phillies fans. I know you are downtrodden that our team didn't win another World Series. Before you get too upset, however, you need to keep a little perspective. We still have 2008 and all the memories that went into winning that title. We still have Cole Hamels' mastery, Brad Lidge's perfection, Carlos Ruiz's big hits and Ryan Howard's homers. They still won it all in Harry Kalas' last year. We still have that banner waving in Citizens Bank Park and nothing will take that away. Not winning this year doesn't erase 2008. No, the Phillies weren't the best team in baseball this year, they were the second best. No, they didn't have enough pitching to slow down the Yankees. And, no, none of the left-handed bats showed up in the World Series except Chase Utley. But, they still deserve credit for getting back to the World Series and giving it everything they had to defend their title. They still gave us plenty of...

Manuel on Hamels

Charlie Manuel was told of Cole Hamels quote about wanting the season over before Sunday’s game four: Manuel sidestepped the Game 7 question, but the manager’s alarm at Hamels’ “can’t wait to get it over with” sentiment was obvious. Manuel said he did not know Hamels had made the statement until it was relayed to him yesterday [...]

Knobler: Lidge, Hamels proving it's not 2008 anymore

Brad Lidge and Cole Hamels were the Phillies' two best pitchers in 2008 and played key roles in their World Series victory. In a 27-hour span, their disastrous performances in the 2009 Fall Classic have all but derailed Philadelphia's repeat bid, Danny Knobler says.

Thank You Phillies

WSBGMs would like to take this opportunity to thank the Philadelphia Phillies for one helluva ride this season. Third straight NL East title and back-to-back World Series appearances...that's the stuff I used to dream of when I was a kid. They may not have won the coveted championship this year, but they're still a great team worthy of adoration. We have the entire season...

Live To Play Another Day

Awesome- Chase Utley. He has hit 5 homeruns this World Series, tying Mr. October Reggie Jackson for the record. Add in his 2 homeruns from the '08 WS and he has 7, which is a record for secondbaseman.Record Setter- We're used to Ryan Howard setting records for homeruns, rbi, and strikeouts during the regular season. After his 2 k's last night, he now shares the World...

Hamels not ready to quit, wants ball if applicable

Forget what he said after Game 3, Cole Hamels wants the ball if there's a Game 7. Ken Rosenthal wonders whether he deserves it.

Hamels Versus Myers

Brett Myers Cole Hamels exchanged words over Cole’s comment about wanting the season to be over. I like Balls, Sticks and Stuff’s take on the two: It’s an easy story to believe, after all, Brett Myers and Cole Hamels definitely operate on two entirely different plane of existence. Brett has tattoos, Cole has delicate [...]

Philadelphia's Cole Hamels says he wants the ball, clarifies remarks that caused a stir

Renck: A mound of drama over a Game 7

Philadelphia's Cole Hamels made a case that he hasn't quit. New York's CC Sabathia made a case that he's fine starting again on short rest.

The Bronx is not burning

One wonders why the Yankees, who've watched as Alex Rodriguez has been hit three times, haven’t sent a message to locked-in slugger Chase Utley, who tied Reggie Jackson’s mark yesterday with five homers in the Fall Classic. Multiple sources are debunking the Cole Hamels and Brett Myers spat, so let’s move back to baseball. After sharing our respective disdain for Nick Swisher...

'Bad Brad' returns to bite Phils

PHILADELPHIA -- The regular-season Brad Lidge reared his ugly head at the worst possible time for the Phillies. The embattled closer had appeared to turn around his awful year in the playoffs -- until the ninth inning last night, when another Lidg...

Yankees lose to Phillies and that’s not what I expected

The New York Yankees lost game five to the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 8-5. A.J. Burnett got the loss. Chase Utley is killing the Yankees. The Yankees are going to have to pitch around him and pitch to “I strike out a lot” Ryan Howard. I was actually expecting the Yankees to win the [...]
