Legendary broadcaster Al Michaels was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI in Southern California Friday night, according to Santa Monica police. Al Michaels is the current play-by-play announcer for NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” and our generation also knows him as the voice of NFL Monday Night Football. The police said Al Michaels was extremely cooperative with the cops and was released on his own recognizance Saturday morning. He was arrested shortly before 10 p.m., then spent about five hours in the Santa Monica City Jail. According to CNN, who first broke the story a couple hours ago:   He’s scheduled to appear at Los Angeles Municipal Court at 8:30 a.m. on June 26.   Neither Al Michaels nor NBC had immediate comment.   CNN has reached out to Al Michaels’ representatives for a response. Yes, I’m still trusting CNN. I think they got this one. Yes, even after their #EPICFAIL on Wednesday. CNN’s “jumping the gun” or “rush to be first, instead of rushing to being right” on the Boston bombing suspects inspired a pretty funny Twitter hashtag. #CNNHeadlines was trending Wednesday. I chipped in with: #CNNHeadlines “Skip Bayless: Most Respected Name in Sports Journalism Today” and #CNNHeadlines “Tim Beckman led Illini to National Championship, 77-0 win over Crimson Tide in Title Game.” So let’s hope CNN got the Al Michaels story right.
