Sandy Alderson has announced that the Mets have optioned Ike Davis, Mike Baxter and Robert Carson to Triple-A Las Vegas following today’s brutal 8-4 loss to the Marlins. “At some point you just have to say to yourself this is not in his best interest,” Sandy Alderson said about Davis’ demotion. “I was one of his biggest supporters. I just felt at some point we’ve got to get him out of here. Hopefully he’ll be back in a short period of time. But he needs to go there. He needs to be able to play every day. He needs to be able to work on his swing without worrying necessarily about the outcome. We think it’s in his best interest.” “It’s tough to sit through 30 innings and score not even a handful of runs,” Alderson said. “It’s been frustrating for everybody. I’m sure it’s frustrating for the fans, too. But we’ve got an off-day tomorrow and we’ve got to pick it up on Tuesday.” Corresponding moves are expected to all come from Triple-A Las Vegas, but will not be announced unti

Adam Rubin is reporting that the three corresponding moves will come from Triple-A Vegas after today’s game. No one has been pulled from the 51s game yet. More on this to come. Keep it locked on MMO.

Mets Might Have Waited Too Late To Save Ike Davis

The first thing to cross my mind hearing about the Ike Davis demotion is:  What grievous thing did he do that he hasn’t done all season to finally cause Sandy Alderson to act? Seriously, what took Alderson so long? All of a sudden Alderson watched the flailing first baseman and said, “Hey, this has to stop.’’ I find that hard to believe. What I don’t find hard to believe...

Mets Finally Demote Ike Davis

Falling under the category of it being about time, the Mets demoted Ike Davis this afternoon, along with outfielder Mike Baxter and left-hander Robert Carson to Triple-A Las Vegas. Davis has struggled all season and there has been speculation of him being optioned for several weeks, but GM Sandy Alderson has been reluctant to make the move. Davis struggled early last year but rebounded...

Finally: Ike Davis Demoted, Satin Returns

The day has finally come in which the Mets used their brains and sent Ike Davis to Triple-A, and he was not alone. Left handed reliever Robert Carson and Queens Native outfielder Mike Baxter have been given a free trip to Las Vegas, while the Mets are expected to recall lefty Josh Edgin, outfielder Colin Cowgill and first baseman Josh Satin. Well at least we have guys with cooler...

Mets David Wright makes nice running catch, scales tarp after

Earlier today, New York Mets third baseman David Wright made one impressive catch against the Miami Marlins after robbed Chris Coughlin with a nice running play. After Wright made the play, watch as David scales the tarp and does a little bit of parkour: Your browser does not support iframes. (Courtesy of Bob's Blitz)

Alderson Made Wholesale Roster Changes Nine Months Later

The New York Mets have gotten off to a wretched start that has seen them dip to 12 games below .500 in early-June. The early optimism of a club that could potentially earn a Wild Card berth if everything clicked is as far gone as a Rob Carson fastball. The club demoted LHB Mike Baxter, LHP Rob Carson, and LHB Ike Davis on Sunday night following the club’s 8-4 loss to the Miami...

Wright Losing More Ground To Sandoval In All Star Voting

PLEASE DON’T LET THIS GUY BEAT DAVID WRIGHT… The second National League All-Star update has been released and six-time All-Star David Wright is losing even more ground to Pablo Sandoval of the San Francisco Giants for starting third baseman. With 1,473,381 votes, Wright now trails Sandoval by over 200,000 votes almost doubling the gap from the first ASG voting release a week...

Mets demote Ike Davis; Zack Wheeler to be called up

Prior to the series sweep of the New York Yankees, the New York Mets had made it known that first baseman Ike Davis was on the cusp of being demoted due to his lack of performance. Despite leading the team with 32 home runs last season, Davis has hit a measly 5 home runs through 55 games this season — along with 16 runs batted in and a line of .161/.242/.258 which is absolutely...

Mets Will Have $45M To Spend… Oh No They Won’t… Not Unless J.P. Morgan Says They Could

“Not so fast, Sandy. I’m calling the shots around here.” – JP Morgan  Sandy Alderson told Joel Sherman of the New York Post, that he will likely have a $90 to $100 million payroll budget next season. When you factor in Wright, Niese, raises and arbitration eligible players, the Mets have roughly $55 million in payroll commitments for the 2014 season. That should give...

Sandy Alderson On WFAN: Lots To Talk About…

Sandy Alderson was a guest of Mike Francesa on WFAN this afternoon and here is a summary of what he had to say on a variety of topics: Winning vs Developing: Wins never become secondary and the reason is that none of us can stomach losses. We want to win games while we are developing players. The Players we need to evaluate will get some playing time and that’s evident with move...

Sandy Alderson Dances Around Questions In Interview; Mike Francesa Ignores Follow-ups

Sandy Alderson is infuriating with his “lawyer speak,’’ which is the art of answering a question without saying something. After hearing him Monday on Mike Francesa, who, of course, did not ask the appropriate follow-up questions, I will give you that public service: ON FIRST BASE CHOICE WITH IKE DAVIS OPTIONED: ALDERSON: Say what? Alderson answer: Terry [Collins] will have...

Alderson Says Duda and Tejada Are Not Core Players

One of the things Sandy Alderson said today during his interview with WFAN’s Mike Francesa, struck me as being kind of odd and out of place. Alderson said that he does not consider Ruben Tejada or Lucas Duda as part of the team’s core. You know what? Neither do I, but I doubt that Duda or Tejada care what I think. Alderson also said he “does consider” Ike Davis to be part...

Broadcasting Games For A Loser Presents Certain Challenges

In an article that was highly critical of the New York Mets, Bob Raissman of the Daily News pondered how challenging it must be for SNY to broadcast Mets games and still keep the viewers from tuning out. With no end to the Mets’ ineptitude and misery in sight, their broadcasters are the only entertaining element left. They won’t be able to stop the ratings from tanking, no set...

Put It In The Books: Wheeler To Debut June 18 In Atlanta

Updated by Joe D, You can put it in the books. Sandy Alderson strongly hinted today that Zack Wheeler will make his Mets and MLB debut on June 18 in Atlanta. “You could speculate and be fairly comfortable that you will see him pitch on that day.” The Mets have doubleheader that day and it could very well be a Harvey and Wheeler pairing for the Mets. Zoom, zoom.. Original Post ...
