The Los Angeles Angels could soon get Tommy Hanson back.  The veteran starter has been rehabbing a right forearm strain, but he is about to take a major step forward.  Hanson is still likely going to be out for a few weeks after the All-Star break, but at least the Angels can start looking forward to his return, barring nay setbacks of course. Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com says Hanson will throw his first bullpen session today since straining his right forearm.  The bullpen sessions are the first step before simulated games or a rehab assignment.  Of course, Hanson has been throwing off flat ground prior to having this bullpen session scheduled.  Generally, the bullpens are the first time an injured pitcher climbs back onto the mound. Hanson has been on the DL since the end of June.  He would likely be a candidate for a return within the minim 15-day timeframe, but the All-Star Game is sandwiched in which should get Hanson some extra time off.  The forearm injury comes after Hanson suffered through a triceps injury in the spring. The Angels acquired Hanson in a trade with the Atlanta Braves last November.  Los Angeles sent Jordan Walden to Atlanta in exchange for the 26-year old Hansen.  The Braves had some clear concerns about Hanson's durability and injury history.  While his DL stint does not prove the Braves right, it certainly continues to raise concerns. Hansen is 4-1 with a 5.10 ERA this season in nine starts.  He has plenty of time to turn things around, but as it stands now, the trade looks like a bust.  Fortunately, Hanson is in his arbitration years, so the Angels are not paying him a lot.  That could continue and the team could part ways when he reaches his free agency year in 2016.  However, if Hanson regains some of the form that allowed him to post a 3.94 ERA in his four seasons with Atlanta, the Angels could be in a good position to sign him to a long-term deal for cheap. The new Angel catching controversy: Iannetta vs. Conger

Iannetta or Conger? Conger or Iannetta? It is one of the hottest question under the Halo right now. What's that you say? You think two defensively limited catchers competing for playing time is hardly a hot topic? Well, clearly you have never paid attention to the news cycle of a sub-.500 three weeks in advance of the deadline when they haven't decided to be buyers or sellers...

Los Angeles Angels Fans Finally Get a Taste of What They've Been Hoping For

The last two season the Los Angeles Angels made the biggest splash in free agency, first by snagging home run machine Albert Pujols from the St. Louis Cardinals and than by stealing slugger Josh Hamilton from their division rival (Texas Rangers)-- and it really hasn't been worth the money at all. That it is, until Wednesday night against the lowly Chicago Cubs. Hamilton...

Josh Hamilton hit two home runs, Albert Pujols also connected and the Los Angeles went deep a season-high five times in a 13-2 rout of the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night. Mark Trumbo and Brendan Harris also homered for the Angels. All five of the Angels' home runs were no-doubters. Angels Trade Candidate: Prospects

Thanks a lot, Angels. Here I am doing a weekly series on which players on your MLB roster you should trade at the deadline since you are so obviously going to be a seller and you have to go and rattle off a winning streak to put yourselves within striking distance of .500 and spitting distance of the Wild Card race. Now I don't know if the Halos are going to be buyers or...

The Fun Is Just Starting, Angels Beat The Cubs 13-2

Holy guacamole! The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim put a pretty serious butt kicking on the Chicago Cubs tonight, with a 13-2 win. It seemed like everyone in the Angels lineup was “on” tonight, as all starters, including starting pitcher C.J. Wilson, had at least one hit tonight and the team had a total of 15 by the end of the game. Speaking of C.J. Wilson, he didn’t have too...

Angels fall, listlessly, to the Woeful Cubs, 7-2

It was as if a fairy tale had come to a shuddering, depressing, fiery end. Joe Blanton, bringer of home runs, feigning effectiveness as a major league starting pitcher the past few weeks, decided to lay a new rotten egg. The latest trick of his was to surrender four home runs to the second-to-last-place Cubs. It's difficult to put into words just how badly the Blanton signing...

Trade Candidate: Howie Kendrick?

By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Staff Writer -   As the trade deadline approaches, teams come to terms with where they are in the standings and have to choose whether they are sellers, buyers, or neutral in the trade market. The Angels are still below .500 in team winning percentage and, soon, Jerry Dipoto and the front office have to make the tough decision to either, stand...

The Halos clobber Samardzija; Angels defeat the Cubs, 13-2

If this is how it's going to be the rest of the season, the Angels may still be in for quite the postseason run. When owner Arte Moreno lured Josh Hamilton away from the Texas Rangers last winter, he envisioned nights like this one occurring all summer long. Angels fans anticipated an offense so prodigious that every ballpark the ballclub set foot in would be painted red after...

Angels-Cubs Preview

The Los Angeles Angels are surging their way back to respectability and a visit to the rebuilding Chicago Cubs would appear to help. The Cubs, though, have more wins against AL teams than in any other season, and they'll try to close out interleague play with a strong showing in a two-game series that begins Tuesday night. Los Angeles (43-45) heads into Chicago having won 10...
