PLAYERS: Anthony Rizzo
TEAMS: Chicago Cubs
Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo  signed a new extension worth $41 million earlier this month and at the time was hitting .288/.361/.554 with nine home runs.Heading into today’s game he is hitting .249/ .312/ .476. He  is 2 for his last 26  .077 with one home run in his last seven games.Rizzo claims he doesn’t feel any extra pressure with the new deal.“I don’t know what more pressure I can put on myself,” he said, adding: “That doesn’t matter at all. You think this game will become a lot easier when you get that financial security, but it’s amazing your instincts stay the same. You still get mad when you make outs.Rizzo seems  to be taking the slump in stride and showed up in the clubhouse Friday with a new  hairstyle. Rizzo  debuted a straightened look as opposed to his traditional curly locks, but went 0 for  5 anyway with a strikeout.

Cubs rumors: Alfonso Soriano more open to trade

Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano has more or less been a permanent fixture on the trade market over the past few seasons. Still, he’s remained on the Cubs, as he’s been hesitant to accept deals to other teams. Armed with his 10-and-5 rights, Soriano told Gordon Wittenmyer of The Chicago Sun-Times that he’s more open to the idea of approving a trade to a contender...

Garvey Three-Run Bomb Propels Rockies to Win over Cubs at Fitch Park

Ryan Garvey belted a three-run HR onto 8th Street in the top of the 8th inning to put the Rockies up 7-4, and then they hung-on to defeat the Cubs 8-6 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Fitch Park Field #4 in Meaa, AZ. Jeff Popick doubled twice, singled, stole a base, drove-in three runs, and scored another, and Correlle Prime singled three times...

Is it worth it for teams to pursue Alfonso Soriano?

When Alfonso Soriano signed his 8 year, $136 million deal with the Cubs, even the Cubs expected Soriano not to be at his best in the last couple seasons of the contract. Maybe the Cubs expected to be a little more competitive in the first couple years of the deal. Soriano still has another season at $18 million in his deal with the Cubs. With the Cubs not going anywhere, shouldn’t...

How much longer will "it is what it is" apply to the Cubs?

Not gonna talk about the Cubs getting swept by Pittsburgh today. But somewhere in the last week or two, not exactly sure (but maybe it was about Ian Stewart or something), I heard SOMEbody say "it is what it is".Or maybe I've heard it about a thousand times. Can't really remember. But it's the most annoying cliché ever.I looked it up on Urban Dictionary and...

Cubs MLB Draft Preview 2013

While the Cubs slog through the 2013 regular season, we continue to look towards the future.  Think about it rationally for a bit…even if they are going to come out of this funk and perform better than their record has suggested, they’ll still sell off this summer, including possibly a trade of Alfonso Soriano.  That is to reload the farm with prospects that will hopefully...

Cubs’ Kyuji Fujikawa leaves Sunday’s game after seeing trainer

Chicago Cubs’ reliever Kyuji Fujikawa left his team’s May 26 game against the Cincinnati Reds in the ninth inning after a visit from the team trainer. Cubs’ Camp on DL with Toe Bust

Chicago Cubs reliever, Shawn Camp, has been retrospectively punished by the baseball gods for not admitting to an injury, after further damaging a toe sprain on Tuesday night against the Pirates. Camp was checked out on Sunday and given the all clear to pitch two days later, but in hindsight should have gone straight on the 15-day DL. He came in to replace James Russell in the sixth...

Cubs 5, Reds 4(10)

Alfonso Soriano hit a tying two-run homer in the eighth inning and Welington Castillo had a go-ahead double in the 10th, helping the Chicago Cubs rally from a four-run deficit in a 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday that stopped a season-high, six-game losing streak. Steel Cage Deathmatch: Garza vs. Cueto!

The Cubs happened to win today’s game, despite a short outing by Matt Garza, and snap a long losing skid.  There was a small incident within the game that should’ve remained insignificant but didn’t for whatever reason.  In the sixth inning, Johnny Cueto, who was cruising along to that point, threw a pitch over David DeJesus‘ head.  Cueto had been agitated since the beginning...

Cubs-White Sox Preview

This week's Crosstown Classic will have a different format - one that seems odd to both the Chicago White Sox's and Chicago Cubs' managers. In the past, these rivals played separate three-game sets in their parks that captivated the Windy City, but as part of the "prime rivals" portion of interleague play, all four of the teams' 2013 matchups take place...
