Indians Baseball Insider:
Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.
Note that Columbus was off yesterday.
Ronny Rodriguez (SS, Akron): 3-for-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI
Rodriguez through the months:
April: .245/.250/.351 line, .601 OPS, .106 ISO in 24 games
May: .262/.292/.437 line, .733 OPS, .175 ISO in 27 games
June: .381/.400/.595 line, .995 OPS, .214 ISO in 10 games
Small sample sizes throughout, but with the knowledge that Rodriguez changed his swing about a month ago, the progression makes sense. Rodriguez's approach has been much better in recent weeks and it is showing up in the stats.
Of course, plenty of attention is still paid to Rodriguez's seven walks in 61 games this year. He is limiting strikeouts (only 37), but the low amount of walks keeps his on-base percentage down (.297).
Interestingly, a scout told me a few years ago that he does not ca...
BEST OF MAXIM
1) Its tough to believe we were all fooled by the Indians fast start and the offseason buzz created by the addition of Nick Swisher, Mark Reynolds and Michael Bourn. The starting pitching was always a concern, but the lineup generated enough excitement to look forward to 2013. A 27-19 start with an 18-4 stretch generated optimism, but a 5-16 stretch has followed, including an eight...
Another Cleveland Indians draft has come and gone.
With that it means over the course of the next month the Indians will sign and bring in about two dozen of the 39 players they selected in the draft. With so much new talent in the system it brings new hope that the Indians past draft misfortunes are finally over and that this is the year they got it right, and they get a few impact...
John McDonald has rejoined the Cleveland Indians nearly nine years after playing his last game for his first major league team.
McDonald was in uniform and on the bench for the Indians' game Tuesday night in Texas.
The Indians reacquired the 38-year utility infielder from Pittsburgh on Monday. He was sent to the Indians after the Pirates recalled him from a rehab assignment...
After a very promising spring training, countless experts and fans alike anticipated a breakout season from Cleveland Indians third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall. Chisenhall, who was entering his third season with the Tribe, earned the starting spot at the hot corner after dominating opposing pitchers in spring training. After two injury-riddled and inconsistent seasons, it seemed that...
The first batch of official 2013 Draft signings are now in the books as they have officially signed 8th round pick right-handed pitcher Trevor Frank, 20th round pick catcher Shane Rowland, 23rd round pick third baseman Grant Fink and 36th round pick second baseman Mike Giuffre.
While the club has not yet announced where they will be assigned, all four players are expected to join...
The Cleveland Indians may be thrilled to return home.
Justin Masterson may be the most relieved.
Coming off a lackluster road trip, the Indians hope Masterson can continue his home dominance in Friday night's series opener with the Washington Nationals.
Cleveland (32-33) opened a nine-game road trip by losing seven in a row before finding some solace in winning the last two,...
ARLINGTON – The Cleveland Indians completed a nine-game road trip with their second-straight win as they topped the Texas Rangers 5-2 on Wednesday.
Right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez (4-4, 4.86) received the start for the Indians to counter Texas righty Nick Tepesch (3-5, 4.34).
The Indians posted a pair in the second inning as designated hitter Jason Giambi was hit by a two-out...
ARLINGTON – The Cleveland Indians halted an eight-game losing streak as a stellar outing from Corey Kluber led the team to a 5-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
Kluber (3-4, 4.14) was looking to rebound from a rough outing in New York as he outdueled Texas righty Derek Holland (5-2, 3.11), who received a no-decision in his previous outing.
Cleveland drew first blood...
It feels like forever since the Indians won two games in a row. Actually it was May 29th and 30th at home against Cincinnati. Last night in Texas, they had a chance to do it again and take some much needed momentum home with them after a brutal nine-game stretch against three of the top teams in the American League.
Arlington has been a house of horrors for the Indians over the past...
The month of June continues to be a painful one for the Clippers who are now 32-34 after another losing week which saw the team go 2-4 in two series against Toledo and Gwinnett. The starting pitching has been throwing better as of late but if Columbus expects to contend for a playoff spot, the rotation will have to delve deeper into games to prevent late-season exhaustion in the...
Roster Update: The Indians made things official today by sending Juan Diaz back to AAA and activating John McDonald. McDonald was added to the 40 man roster yesterday when the Indians moved Brett Myers to the 60 Day DL. Diaz didn't play a single inning in the field during his six games with the team, making one wonder why he was brought up in the first place.
Player of the...
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Jason Kipnis had a home run among his three hits and the Cleveland Indians got a series-clinching 5-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.
A night after ending an eight-game losing streak, and a span of 12 losses in a row away from home, the Indians made it consecutive victories to clinch their first road series in a month. They had gone 0-4...
