Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game. Charlie Valerio (C, Carolina): 1-for-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 SO. The overall line on the night from Valerio may not jump off the screen, but timing is everything. Valerio launched a 10th inning home run to center field, giving the Mudcats a 3-2 lead on the road. Then, in the bottom half of the inning, Valerio threw out a runner attempting to steal second base for the final out of the game. Valerio is not a high profile prospect in the system, but he is one taking advantage of the catching issues throughout the system. You have to stand out when given the opportunity and Valerio did just that. Chun-Hsiu Chen (1B, Akron): 1-for-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO, 1 SB, 1 HBP I know that Chen does not have a real position. I also know that his bat is very likely not good enough to carry him to the...

Still No Timetable for Michael Bourn’s Return

Lost in the shuffle of the Indians’ offensive prowess over the last few games is that they’ve been doing it without their table-setter and $48 million man, Michael Bourn. Bourn suffered a lacerated finger after being unceremoniously trampled on by White Sox reliever nearly three weeks ago.  After hitting the DL and eventually having his stitched removed last week, Bourn is evidently...

Bauer, LaPorta sent to Columbus, Wood to Akron

In a move that was expected, the Cleveland Indians today announced that right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus. No corresponding roster move has been announced to replace him on the 25-man roster, but with an off day on Thursday, one is expected to be announced on Friday. Bauer, 22, is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA in two starts for Cleveland and has allowed...

Indians take on the Twins tonight, Can Ryan Raburn keep his hitting alive after a day off? I think so.

Tonight the Cleveland Indians kick off a 3 game series against the Minnesota Twins. It will be Justin Masterson going against the Twins, left hander Pedro Hernandez. All eyes will be focused on the Indians hot hitting Ryan Raburn. Many will be watching to see if Raburn cooled off after the Indians day off yesterday. The last thing Raburn wanted to do was not play baseball. The guy...

Indians, Bauer shutout Phillies for fourth straight win

With a forecast that called for a potential Bauer outage, there was no short of electricity in the air at Progressive Field on Wednesday. The Indians offense powered their way to their fourth straight win as they shutout the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-0 to complete the two-game series sweep. In a matchup that featured former Tribe lefty Cliff Lee in one corner and Indians top prospect Trevor...

Cleveland Indians Option Pitcher Trevor Bauer to Triple-A

The Cleveland Indians have optioned right handed pitcher Trevor Bauer to Triple-A Columbus after having walked six batters in his spot-start. The demotion shouldn’t last too long as he is definitely in the Indians long-term plans. Indians claim Carrera off waivers, designate McDade

On Thursday evening the Cleveland Indians claimed outfielder Ezequiel Carrera off waivers from Philadelphia. To make room on the club's 40-man roster the Indians esiganted first baseman Mike McDade for assignment. Carrera, 25, has appeared in 13 games for the Phillies this season and went 1-for-13 in limited time. He was in Major League camp with the Indians this spring...

Orbiting Cleveland: Analyzing the four-game win streak

When you're hot, you're hot. And right now, the Cleveland Indians are on fire. As you know, these last four games have been fun — very fun. Just take a look at these numbers: 10, 9, 14, 6 — the number of runs the Indians have scored in each of their past four ball games. 14, 14, 17, 14 — the number of hits the Indians have tallied in each of their past ball games....

Indians offensive surge continues, route Phillies 14-2

Just what the doctor ordered. The Indians continued their hot play on Tuesday as they routed the Philadelphia Phillies in a slugfest, 14-2. Tribe bats exploded for 14 runs on 16 hits to win their third consecutive game. Offensively, Cleveland greeted Interleague play and Phillies starter Roy Halladay with a knockout, belting a Progressive Field record seven home runs in the contest...

Swisher the Outfielder

When Nick Swisher originally signed with the Indians this winter, it was as the starting right fielder. Shin-Soo Choo had already been traded and Mark Reynolds had been signed to be the first baseman. There was still a huge hole at DH however, that was taken care of when the Michael Bourn signing moved everyone over a spot (Drew Stubbs to right, Swisher to first, Reynolds to DH)...

Tribe hits 7 home runs in crushing Halladay, 14-2

CLEVELAND (AP) --Ryan Raburn homered twice for the second straight game and the Cleveland Indians hit seven home runs in all, routing the Philadelphia Phillies 14-2 Tuesday night. The Indians set a major league high this season for homers in a game. Cleveland has won three in a row, outscoring opponents 33-5 in that span. Philadelphia had won three in a row before Roy Halladay (2...

Indians 14, Phillies 2: Seven Home Runs…I Repeat…Seven Home Runs Pace Tribe

Who are these Cleveland Indians hitters and what did you do with the group we’ve watched most of the season? If we can take anything from this current Tribe three-game winning streak it is that this streaky team can be very dangerous when they get hot. The baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint. We are only a month in and we’ve already seen many peaks and valleys with our...
