Arizona State pitcher Trevor Williams was selected by the Miami Marlins with the 44th overall pick in the second round of the MLB draft on Thursday. Williams, a junior, went 6-6 this season in 16 starts with an ERA of 4.12, but his career ERA of 2.99 is tied for the fifth-lowest in the program's modern history. He threw three complete games this season while striking out 81 and walking just 26. As a sophomore in 2012, the 6-foot-3, 228-pound right-hander was a second-team All-American and a first-team All-Pac-12 selection after finishing the year with a 2.05 ERA while striking out 59 and walking 13. Williams' fastball generally sits in the low 90s, and he also throws a slider, curve and change-up, all of which are considered by scouts to be average major league pitches. Williams was the first ASU player selected and the only one taken on the first day of the draft.
