I think it's kind of hypocritcal (hypocritical might be too strong of a word- inconsistent might be better) for the Sox to state that they feel a need to start Scutaro because he fought through injury and played hard last year, and at the same time systematically cut (from the ML roster) a guy like Atchison. Scott Atchison took a lot of beatings out of the pen for the Sox last year, and, all said, he was probably their most reliable reliever, outside of Bard. I know it's probably just a numbers game, because Atchison has options and can be sent to the minors, but I still feel like he kind of got a raw deal.

Bowden was also pitching great this spring, and hopefully he can bring it all together in Pawtucket this year and help the ML club some point early in the season. I was in Fort Myers last week, and it looked like Bowden was finally getting that good, hard sink back that originally caught the attention of the Red Sox and made him a top prospect. If he can get his confidence back, he could be a key and versatile contributor to the ML bullpen before long.
