Bartolo Colon won his 14th game for a share of the major league lead, backed by Jed Lowrie's homer and two-run single and a two-run drive by Stephen Vogt in the Oakland Athletics' 6-4 victory against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.
Colon, the 40-year-old All-Star, won his third straight decision while facing his former club. The right-hander earned the 2005 AL Cy Young Award with a 21-8 year for the Angels.
Mike Trout hit a two-run homer in the first on a ball he crushed into the elevated seats in left-center, then Colon settled in nicely against Los Angeles' loaded lineup.
Colon (14-3) allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings, struck out two and walked two. He has won 11 of 12 decisions since losing May 9 at Cleveland and has lost just once since turning 40 on May 24.
After serving a 50-game suspension late last year into this season for a positive testosterone test, Colon is among more than a dozen players being investigated by Major League Baseball f...

Even though the Oakland Athletics bullpen has been quite strong this season, they are missing a prominent force. Left handed pitcher Brett Anderson, who was acquired by the Athletics in 2007, has been out with an ankle for most of 2013. Even though he was picked to pitch Opening Day this year, he only pitched five more games after that before landing on the disable...
Bartolo Colon never envisioned this a share of the major league lead in wins two months past his 40th birthday and going on a year since he received a 50-game suspension for a positive testosterone test.

Another player has hit the 7-day DL this week. The Oakland A's have placed catcher John Jaso on the DL with a concussion. Jaso was undergoing tests over the last couple days to determine whether he was healthy enough to play - this is MLB protocol when a potential concussion exists - and he did not pass the test. The A's decided it best to utilize the relatively new...
The Oakland Athletics have placed catcher John Jaso on the seven-day concussion disabled list.
The A's made the move before opening a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. Stephen Vogt was called up from Triple-A Sacramento, and Derek Norris moved into the starting lineup in Jaso's place.
Jaso hit his third home run of the season in Oakland's...

Oakland Athletics left-hander Brett Anderson threw his second of three scheduled bullpen sessions, and he reported feeling no pain afterward. MLB.com's Jane Lee reported that Anderson threw 40 pitches and had no issues.
Manager Bob Melvin spoke of Anderson's bullpen session, describing his left-hander's physical progress and "stuff." Said Melvin,
The Oakland A’s downed the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 thanks to a typically impressive outing from Bartolo Colon and a strong showing from the offense, including home runs from Jed Lowrie and Stephen Vogt.
The A’s fell behind early after Colon served up a two-run home run to Mike Trout in the first inning. Of the uncharacteristically rough start for Colon, who ending up picking up...
Albert Pujols had words for Oakland A’s relief pitcher Grant Balfour after hitting a 2-run single off of him in the ninth inning of Oakland’s 6-4 win over the Angels at O.co Coliseum on Friday night. Balfour threw up and in on Pujols earlier in the at-bat, which angered the Angels DH. Balfour tried going [...]
It’s hard not to have a soft spot for some things from the past. Then again, there are things that are better off behind us — like the A’s throwback jerseys.
The Athletics sported uniforms from days long ago when they hosted the Angels Saturday afternoon. Oakland defeated Los Angeles, 3-1, so either the change of garb brought good luck upon the A’s or the bright yellow pants...
Chase Utley. Michael Young. Jake Peavy. Ervin Santana. These are the names that have been mentioned in connection to the Oakland A’s as the trade deadline approaches.
The names all make sense, Utley and Young would represent an upgrade in the weakest infield spot. Peavy and Santana would add depth to an already strong starting rotation and push someone to the bullpen, further strengthening...
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Derek Norris had a pinch-hit two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Oakland Athletics' 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. Jed Lowrie also drove in a run for the A's, who won their second straight and five of seven overall. Coco Crisp added two hits. Tommy Milone (9-8) allowed four hits over seven innings,...

Author’s Note: This is the fourth edition of a seven part series on fielding and how it could affect your fantasy team and the trade deadline. We are profiling the top two teams in each division because those are the teams most likely to deal for players to help them down the stretch. During the process, we will discuss some fairly complex topics as it pertains to fielding. If...
The A’s (59-42) will host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (47-52) for a four-game series starting tonight in Oakland.
Last weekend, Oakland lost the first two games out of the All-Star Break down in Anaheim before winning the finale 6-0 behind Bartolo Colon’s complete game shut out. Yesterday, Oakland rode a seventh-inning go-ahead home run from Coco Crisp (against former...
