Auburn graduate Dawn Davenport will add depth at the eye-candy reporter position for the ESPN Networks.  Auburn grad Dawn Davenport, currently a sports reporter for WKRN in Nashville, joins ESPNU as the station’s prime-time sideline reporter. She made her first appearance on College Gameday yesterday. Don’t misread the opening graph, or read too much into it. Dawn Davenport is good at her job (2 AP awards). She does good work. She just happens to be a total smokeshow who also does good work. And in today’s media landscape, that’s how you get ahead. Lots of people, both men and women, do good work. But “hotness” is now the #1 prerequisite for getting the plum jobs. Again, she’s good at what she does (see the Dawn Davenport reel below) but competition for a national ESPN job is ridiculously competitive. And with the defections of Jenn Brown, Erin Andrews and Michelle Beadle, ESPN has little depth at Eye-Candy position in their team of reporters. Plenty of Dawn Davenport photos in this post (couple more after the vid) Of course, ESPN still has Samantha Ponder, Wendi Nix and Sara Walsh. Her first gig was yesterday, Auburn’s season opener vs. Washington State on Aug. 31. Dawn Davenport will work every primetime SEC game on ESPNU Paul M.
