Make it two in a row for the No. 5 Florida Gators. On Friday night in Lexington, KY, the Gators defeated the No. 6 Kentucky Wildcats 5-1 in game two of the three-game series between the SEC rivals. The win was another big one for Florida as it improved to 2-0 this week.
The game was tied 1-1 in the top of the eighth when freshman third baseman Josh Tobias drove in the winning run on a one-out single. The Gators would add three more in the ninth inning to put the Wildcats away for good.
Pitching was again the story for the 35-12 (14-9 SEC) Gators. Sophomore starter Karsten Whiston went four and two-thirds, allowing six hits and just the one run. Junior Greg Larson got his sixth win of the season as the pitcher of record. And junior Steven Rodriguez recorded his second straight save.
It’s a Saturday series finale for Florida and Kentucky. The two face off at 2:00pm.
