Today the Colts signed their 2013 first rounder, Bjoern Werner. It’s nice to see the top pick finally get something on paper.  The rookie signed a 4-year deal worth $7.89-million. Now the questions is…now what? What will Werner’s roll be in the defense? Head Coach Chuck Pagano likened Werner to his former player in Baltimore, Paul Kruger.  That’s a decent model though I’d certainly like to see him become more of an impact player than Kruger has proved to be.  During mini camp they had Werner lining up opposite Robert Mathis as a stand up edge rusher.  That’s the kind of role he’ll have, and he’s going to find himself in an open competition with 2013 free agent addition, Erik Walden.  Walden was given a ridiculous contract that I still don’t understand.  A 4-year $16-million dollar contract seems insane for a situational edge rusher that hasn’t had consistent playing time.  My hope is that Werner proves to be what Pagano and crew expected and takes the outright starting spot.  That
