Sloane Stephens, I know you’ve been eying Serena Williams’s throne, but you might want to fall back a bit.  There’s a new YBF chick, Victoria Duval, on the scene and she’s completely captured the hearts of America.  No really, Lil’ Wayne tweeted about her, so you know it’s real: Nice win Victoria Duval! Keep it up — Lil Wayne WEEZY F (@LilTunechi) August 28, 2013 Duval, 17-years-old, achieved a first round upset of the 2011 US Open Champion, Samantha Stosur.  After a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory, the Haitian-American teen relished the moment with a more than deserving jubilant celebration. But the fresh faced Duval didn’t have an easy road to the US Open.  Following her match, Duval shared a glimpse into her personal journey that includes being held at gunpoint during a hostage situation.  And, as if that’s not enough, she had another scare when her father was buried alive during the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.  Miraculously, he was rescued.  Not only did he survive to tell his story, but he was present at yesterday’s monumental match cheering his baby girl on. Here’s how it all went down in Flushing Meadows, yesterday. Ranked 298th in the world, Duval’s win shouldn’t come as a surprise to any of us.  Despite all of  life’s curveballs, she’s proven she has no quit in her. At the tender age of 17, she’s experienced more hardships than many adults, and yet she’s prevailed. What a truly admirable and inspiring trait to possess.  I am completely smitten by her spirit, poise, and determination.  I’m #TeamDuval all the way! -@itsshanarenee image via AP
