The Trail Blazers have reached an agreement to sign veteran point guard Mo Williams his agent Mark Bartlestein said Wednesday. Williams agreed to a two-year $5.6 million contract with a player option for the second season. Bartlestein said he expects Williams to sign the contract in the next day or two. The agent said Williams was strongly influenced by the presence of Blazers general manager Neil Olshey with whom he worked when both were with the Clippers and coach Terry Stotts who coached him in Milwaukee. Williams had his breakout NBA season under Stotts in 2006-07 when he averaged 17.3 points and 6.1 assists with Milwaukee. "His relationship with Neil with Terry goes way back" Bartlestein said. "It's just a long-standing relationship that's built on trust." Williams took to Twitter to announce the move writing "Portland here I come!!!!!!" His post included the hashtag "#playoffs." Bartlestein said he envisions Williams coming off the bench behind starter Damian Lillard and providing the sort of instant offense he did for the Clippers in 2011-12 when he averaged 13.2 points playing behind All-Star Chris Paul. "I think it's going to be great situation for him" Bartlestein said. "I think he'll be their sixth man coming off the bench. I think he'll have a great year for them." An unrestricted free agent Williams was considered the most prominent unsigned player available. Several reports listed Miami as one of the teams interested in him. "There were a number of teams" Bartlestein said. "It was a very exhausting process just going through a number of situations that we were looking at." Williams who played collegiately at Alabama has played 10 seasons in the NBA for five teams. He played in the All-Star Game in 2008-09 when he was teammate of LeBron James in Cleveland and averaged 17.8 points and 4.1 assists and shot 43.6 percent on three-pointers on a 66-win team.
