The Blue Jays built themselves an early five-run lead then cruised to a 10-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks ensuring Toronto of its first interleague winning record since 2007.
The win was the Jays 11th victory in 19 games over National League opponents this season with one final interleague game scheduled Wednesday afternoon. It ensures Toronto just its fourth winning record in 17 seasons of interleague play.
The first five hitters in the Blue Jay lineup accounted for 11 of their 15 hits including home runs by Rajai Davis Edwin Encarnacion and ninth-inning pinch-hitter Adam Lind. Davis and Brett Lawrie each drove in a pair of runs.
Moises Sierra had a pair of doubles and capped off his evening with a ninth-inning two-run home run his first of the season.
Encarnacion’s homer makes it five games in a row at Chase Field where he has hit one out. “I didn’t know that” he said. “That surprised me. This is one of the best places to hit. You can see the ball really good here.
