Bobby Knight and Rece Davis called the Vanderbilt and Kentucky men’s basketball game last night on ESPN and the ending was baffling for the former Indiana basketball coach. Bobby was having a hard time telling the difference between the game clock and the shot clock in reference to Nerlens Noel’s made bucket with 17.3 seconds left. It was very clear that the clock hit zero, and Nerlens shot shouldn’t have counted. Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings was none too pleased with the outcome, and rightfully so. Watch the video especially starting around the 50-second mark, and you will understand the Knight struggle. Kentucky held on to win 60-58.

Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight didn’t sound like a Hall of Fame announcer Thursday night during the Kentucky-Vanderbilt game.Knight had absolutely no idea what the difference between the shot-clock and game-clock were.It was clear that the shot-clock was at 0.0 when Nerlens Noel sunk what would end up being the game-winning shot (should have counted). Former Indiana and Texas Tech head coach Bobby Knight once had one of the most incredible and knowledgable basketball minds around.
Through age and sure attrition, Knight has lost a little bit as he’s gotten older, but ESPN still chooses to use him as an announcer during the college basketball season.
