Bobby Valentine is the latest in sports to follow Isiah Thomas’ footsteps and give it the ol’ college try. The Connecticut Post is reporting that Sacred Heart University, a Division I school in Fairfield, Conn., will hire Valentine as its next athletic director.
It’s a nice attention-grabber for a school most of us have never heard of, but that is about as far as it goes in terms of positives. The odds of this working out aren’t very good.
Valentine brings a whopping zero days experience in college athletics to the table, and is coming off a disastrous showing in which he managed the Red Sox to their worst finish in four decades. Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut will be naming former Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine as their new athletic director on Tuesday, according to William Paxton of CtPost. Valentine interviewed for the job, which is being vacated by the retiring Don Cook on July 1, in mid-January. Valentine had this to say on Thursday when reached for comment.
