Its time for the Boston Bruins first matinee game of the season and it comes against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Bruins are coming off of a very disappointing loss to the Colorado Avalanche in which they were shut out. (Thornton back checking. Picture courtesy bluejackets.nhl.com)Over the past decade the Blue Jackets have been trying to build an NHL team. They still have never made it past the first  round of the playoffs, but now it looks like their process is almost complete. Especially in part to Sergei Bobrovsky the Blue Jackets Vezina trophy winning goalie. Last season Sergei Bobrovsky posted an even 2 GAA and a .932 save percentage. Thanks to Bobrovsky the Jackets almost made the playoffs. Now this season they get to have Marian Gaborik for a full season and continue to have great goal tending.1) Shut Down Gaborik. Marian Gaborik is the best player the Jackets have. They acquired him midway through the shortened season when the Rangers looked to move some cap room off their ...

Boston Bruins: No breaks in beantown

Last night the Boston Bruins had more shots on goal, hits, takeaways and more offensive zone time than their opponent, the Colorado Avalanche.  Unfortunately, they also had more penalty minutes and one more goal allowed in a 1-0 loss against the undefeated Avs.  Although new coach Patrick Roy has brought a new level of intensity to the Avalanche team, the loss had more to do with...

Eriksson's goal gives Boston win

Loui Eriksson scored from a hard angle in the opening minute of the third period for his first goal with Boston, and the Bruins beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-1 on Saturday. Playing their first road game, the Bruins also got a goal from Chris Kelly, and an empty-net tally from Milan Lucic. Tuukka Rask made 26 saves. Rask blocked Marian Gaborik's tying attempt in the closing...

Jarome Iginla, Loui Eriksson Make Big Impact in Bruins’ Come-From-Behind Win Over Columbus

It’s unrealistic to think that Jarome Iginla and Loui Eriksson have totally found a comfort level in Boston already. If Saturday is any indication, however, those new B’s are on their way to fitting in quite nicely with the rest of the defending Eastern Conference champions. Both players were held off the scoresheet through the first three games, but both made sizable impacts...

Bruins Bounce Back With Win Over Blue Jackets, Tuukka Rask Says Team ‘Got Off to a Good Start’ (Video)

The Bruins suffered its first loss in the early season on Thursday, but Saturday the team was able to bounce back against an opponent it has dominated over they last few meetings. The B’s are 4-0 against the Columbus Blue Jackets since the 2012-2011 season, averaging nearly three goals per game. On Saturday, the team scored exactly three, and goaltender Tuukka Rask said that the...

Misconduct call doesn't sit well with Lucic

Milan Lucic was still visibly steamed in the minutes after the loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. The Bruins power forward missed most of the third period after being slapped with a 10-minute misconduct at the end of the second period following an altercation with Avalanche forward Gabriel Landeskog. Lucic’s absence clearly didn’t help matters in a tight 2-0 loss...

Blue Jackets Feast on Buffalo, 4-1

This time there was no rust. The Blue Jackets well-rested after a four-day break between games scored three times in the first period and overwhelmed the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 last night in the First Niagara Center. The Jackets looked nothing like the team that exited an eight-day break between their final exhibition and their season opener by playing a step behind the Calgary Flames...

Bruins end strong with 3-1 victory over Columbus

The Bruins didn’t bring their fire and brimstone game early in a sleepy Saturday matinee in Ohio but they ended things strong with some closing finish in a 3-1 win over the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. Loui Eriksson enjoyed his best game with the Bruins and lifted a wobbling backhander past Sergei Bobrovsky on the short side in the third period to register his first goal...

Red Wings-Bruins Preview

Neither Boston's Loui Eriksson nor Detroit's Todd Bertuzzi were much of a factor in the first meeting between the teams, but both seem poised to play bigger roles as the Bruins host the Red Wings again Monday night. Eriksson and Bertuzzi each went without a point as goals from Jordan Caron, Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Brad Marchand helped Boston earn a 4-1 victory Oct. 5...

Avs remind Boychuk of trade that changed life

The Colorado Avalanche came to town on Thursday night and that occasion always makes Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk thankful. It didn’t have a happy ending for the Black and Gold as they dropped a 2-0 game to the Avs on the strength of a 39-save performance from the ageless Jean-Sebastien Giguere but the Colorado/Boston story has crafted a happy ending for Boychuk. The 29-year...

Bruins-Blue Jackets Live: B’s Open Road Slate With Stop in Columbus to Take On Jackets

8 a.m.: The Bruins are among just a handful of teams who have only played three games in this young NHL season, but their slate is about to pick up in the coming days, and that starts with matinee action Saturday in Ohio. The B’s are on the road for the first time all season Saturday when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. It will mark the Bruins’ fourth...

Blue Jackets dump Sabres 4-1

Marian Gaborik had a goal and two assists and the Columbus Blue Jackets kept the Buffalo Sabres winless with a 4-1 victory on Thursday. Cam Atkinson, Nick Foligno and Brandon Dubinsky also scored for Columbus. Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves for the Blue Jackets. Thomas Vanek scored for Buffalo and Ryan Miller stopped 29 of 33 shots for the Sabres, who fell to 0-4-1 on the season...
